Deep “Political Courage” Thought

Filed in National by on March 18, 2009

Mike Castle knows full well that his blood thristy “the only good fetus is a dead fetus” policy does not sit well with most of the GOP base, so this bold move to boldly be against something that has no chance of actually happening is sadly predictable.

Seriously, I wouldn’t dismiss human cloning as never having a chance of happening. S Korean scientists (I believe it was in S Korea and propped up by private ventures) are already trying to lay the groundwork. That was put out there in the news a couple of years ago. It’s constantly been a side concern of this.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

I actually have no problem banning human cloning, in that we should not clone a complete human being. I do have no problem with cloning organs, like hearts, livers, lungs, etc. for transplant purposes.

  3. cassandra_m says:

Reproductive cloning for humans is quite some way off (but certainly the one with the biggest pot of gold at the end), but it is useful to be clear about the varieties of cloning before evaluating legislative efforts to restrict it.

The whole effort at cloneing for any reason is still a work in very early stages and I would not want sneaky provisions by the christianists who want to advance their agenda to tie the hands of a lot of potentially good science. If it is just making the reproductive cloning of humans illegal that is OK — any broader than that and you’ve quashed alot of good science.

Why bother when Guatemalan peasant hearts, livers and lungs are so cheap?

  5. anon says:

But how else are they going to make more Republicans?

  6. Unstable Isotope says:

Actually, I don’t quite understand the revulsion against reproductive cloning. I definitely think there should be restrictions, but it’s not like you’re creating another you, you’ll have a much younger identical twin.

    Jason330: I’m thristy.

Anon: I’m Friday. … No, wait, dammit, you spelled it wrong and screwed up the entire joke!

Oh, waiter … one order of spellcheck to Jason’s computer, please.

Let’s get to the Meconi stuff.

  9. John Tobin says:

It looks like Vince Meconi has a new part-time job securing economic stimulus money for Delaware:

  10. Suzanne says:

UI – not sure why, but somehow it just “feels” wrong – raising yourself or having a twin that is 10 years younger then you — can you imagine what that would do in areas where the gene pool is already scraping on the bottom of the barrel? (Do I hear any west-Virginia jokes?)

  11. Why did Markell re-hire Meconi? says:

    In November, Jason wrote:

“I can’t imagine Meconi staying on.”

And yet now we hear the chirping of little birds from everyone at DL…

    Some political courage.

  12. jason330 says:

Yo dipshit – your wet dream just came true up stairs. Try to keep up.

and BTW…is he staying on as state health and social services secretary ?

Okay then. I was right again. SO suck it.

Yay! Just 12+ hours after the news oozed out, you guys stick it up there. Renews my faith in the blogs as a source of news. 😉

Sorry, I didn’t mean to take you away from pontificating on national politics. But for a site focused on Delaware, I figured, um, Delaware was supposed to be the focus.
