The Fire Breathing Traitorous McCarthyite Representative Michelle Bachmann has engaged in yet another fire breathing display of drama. But this time, it seems she does not understand what she is so angry about, or she does understand, and is just trying to gin up a false controversy, since, as we all know, the Republicans stand for nothing.
Bachmann is jumping on a [statement Monday] by Tim Geithner, who temporarily seemed to suggest yesterday that he’s open to a Chinese proposal to replace the dollar as the global [reserve] currency, before walking it back. She blasted out a release demanding that Obama come clean about his intentions and say whether he agrees with Geithner[.]
…
The thing is, though, is that Geithner has already clarified that he doesn’t foresee a change in the dollar’s centrality. And Obama himself flatly declared that he’s not open to such a change at his presser the other night.
Not that the truth as ever mattered to Republicans….
Undeterred, Bachmann has even “introduced a resolution that would bar the dollar from being replaced by any foreign currency,” as her release puts it.
But here is the thing. Bachmann is talking about U.S. Currency. Her office has confirmed that this resolution is about keeping the dollar as the currency of the United States. She actually thinks that Geithner was talking about replacing the Dollar as the national currency. In order to introduce such a resolution, she must actually believe that, unless she bravely passes the resolution, that she will have 500 Pesos, or Euros, or Yen in her wallet rather than Dollars. And if she actually believes that, then yes, she is a full blown idiot of the first order. I question whether she has the intellectual rigor to make cereal, let alone remain in Congress.
What Geithner was talking about was statements by China’s Premier, who wondered aloud one day whether the U.S. Dollar should remain the global reserve currency. And guess what Michelle, the U.S. Congress and the Obama Administration really have no control over that.
My bet is that Michelle is not that stupid to think that Geithner is talking about replacing the U.S. Currency. She is just being in her normal manipulative and lying self, trying to deflect attention away from her party’s lack of principles and plans.
