Trivial Promises
I guess the Delaware legislature thought Kilroy’s bill to require school board members’ to swear an oath to support the laws of Delaware was trivial. Perhaps they thought it was something akin to a “feel good” resolution in honor of apple pie. It passed by a vote of 41 to zero.
But oaths of office are not trivial. My sense is that if voters take the time to measure their elected officials against their oaths of office we would have a much better government from to bottom.
If nothing else, we certainly would have been able to get rid of George Bush before he was able to do so much damage and Mike Castle would be long gone.
I think elected officials should have to read the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the state Constitution and perhaps take a quiz on them.
Love the quiz idea!
A solution in search of a problem. Another example of legislation that is not needed but looks good on a campaign resume.
