Wingnut Freakouts — Gifts Fit for a Queen Edition

Filed in National by on April 2, 2009

Wingnuts everywhere (including some our local rookie leaguers) clutched their collective pearls yesterday over the fact that the Obamas gave the Queen of England a video iPod. While she already had a non-video 2005 version:

So the Queen of England did what lots of people hooked on their iPods do — she asked for a new one, with all of the new features. And this one came with a programming request — footage from her last visit to the US. If I had been her, I would have asked for a new iPhone, but equipped with extra special Head of State security features. Bet Cupertino would have done it too.

Didn’t the Queen’s spokesperson say the the gift was a hit with the Queen?

Oh that’s right. Facts don’t matter to wingnuts.

So much Republican discussion about hostess gifts and nary a word on their super duper budget.

  4. I didn’t hear any of them blast the queen for gifting an 8×10 glossy of herself signed…..

    *yawn*

Wingnuts make up story and then go crazy over it. Same old, same old.

I noticed, Pandora, that there is very little effort to defend or even promote the Republican excuse for a budget. (A document in which you can see they’ve learned no lessons about either governing or messaging.) They had to make up the CBO data for both budgets past 2019, so I imagine that they don’t want too many people to notice that. And nor do they want people to notice that they just remove Medicare. But I guess there is a planet somewhere where iPod Disdain qualifies as a New Idea.

The wingnuts are really desperate if this is all they can find to criticize, not to mention that the criticism is totally phony.

It is pretty obvious that the Obamas were a hit with the Queen, as reported by the Brit press.

More importantly, the President achieved diplomatic successes at the G20, interacting positively with all the leaders present, and setting the stage for future global cooperation to continue to address not only the economic crisis, but also nuclear proliferation and disarmament.

Seriously, I cannot imagine one Republican leader who would be effective in this context, because they have no leaders, and their ideology has rendered them frozen, thus totally impotent!
