Talk about contradicting yourself.  Buchanan is a mess by the end of this take-down by Lawrence O’Donnell.

To use the Theocrats’ own term, they are “Cafeteria” Christians, the whole lot of them.

Abortion bad; death penalty good? You just can’t pick and choose, right?

Anyway, my Benedictine Monk Great Uncle used to say that all monotheistic religions follow the Ten Commandments, in some form or another. What separates christians is their adherence to Jesus’ words, aka The Beatitudes.

But I guess those are too hard to follow if you’re a capitalist.

Buchanan: GWB didn’t kill all those people on death row – but Obama actually performed the abortions.

    I get it now.

O’Donnell pins Buchanan to the wall and keeps on hitting!

    This was a great takedown.

But O’Donnell misrepresented the Church position, to great effect. And Pat took the bait by arguing the morality of abortion vs. the death penalty. If he had argued from the Catholic point of view he would have fared better.

Pat was right, at least at first. The Church really does prohibit pro-choice speakers while allowing pro-death penalty speakers. It is morally schizophrenic and requires torturing the New Testament to justify it, but it is a real rule.

    requires torturing the New Testament

This is a very succinct description of modern Republicanism.
