Cheers to Charles Johnson of LGF.
“Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but what the hell happened to “The buck stops here”? President Barack Obama is the Commander in Chief of the US armed forces. I certainly don’t agree with a lot of his policies, but I’ll be damned if I won’t — at the very least — respect the office and give him congratulations when it’s deserved. And when the US military succeeds in a critical mission, the CinC deserves congratulations.
There is way too much mean-spiritedness in modern politics, and I for one am totally sick of it. And disappointed in those few LGF lizards who can’t find it in themselves to be gracious and say, “Well done.”
Take a step back from the brink, folks. Oppose Obama’s policies all you like, but be the loyal opposition, not a bunch of ranting haters. The Internet already has more than enough of those. And that’s my screed for the evening”
These are the words of Charles Johnson of Little Green Footballs. Little Green Footballs normally is a toxic right wing hate site, spewing forth the normal right wing lies about our President. It is nice to see some reasonable comments there once and a while.
There are some times when a President you do not respect, do not like and do not agree with does do a good thing. And normally, it occurs in the arena of foreign policy. I remember after September 11, 2001, when President Bush stood on the pile and said “We can hear you, I can hear you, and the people who knocked these buildings down will hear from all of us soon!” I shouted in agreement. And Bush did the right thing in going into Afghanistan to evict the Taliban and capture Osama Bin Laden. My agreement with Bush ended at Tora Bora and the decision to go after Iraq in 2002.
Indeed, can you imagine how different his Presidency would have been had he not let Bin Laden go at Tora Bora, or if he had kept the focus on Afghanistan and ignored the neocons?
Off topic, from, of all places, the Washington Times. Article also mentions the recent rash of right wing, republican shootings, murders and killings of innocent Americans.
The Department of Homeland Security is warning law enforcement officials about a rise in “rightwing extremist activity,” saying the economic recession, the election of America’s first black president and the return of a few disgruntled war veterans could swell the ranks of white-power militias.
A footnote attached to the report by the Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis defines “rightwing extremism in the United States” as including not just racist or hate groups, but also groups that reject federal authority in favor of state or local authority.
“It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single-issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration,” the warning says.
I read that article and will look for the report to read later.
Andrew Sullivan pointed to a Michele Malkin post where she is going batshit and wonders if she thinks that Homeland Security includes her in the list. Frankly, I have no issues with this. They are looking to monitor the kinds of folks that the Southern Poverty Law Center constantly write about. Law enforcement at many levels monitor the activities of folks organized for illegal activity or organized to hurt people, including street gangs, organized crime and the like — there is no reason why law enforcement shouldn’t be taking notice of the wingnut extremist who at least threaten violence and lawlessness. And they don’t have peaceful habits.
