Hey, it’s o.k. since they killed Daniel Pearl. The situational ethics of the so-called religious Republican party is stunning. I still don’t understand how people knowing we tortured is going to make us less safe? 9/11 isn’t Bush’s fault because he was only president for a few months, but the economic crisis is all Obama’s fault because…?
What about Anthrax? Has that completely gone down the memory hole?
Republicans have made this question relevant with all their talk of Obama making us less safe and open for another attack. Geez, Cheney comes off as almost wishing we were hit again just so he can say I told you so.
Sirota was right of course but I don’t think this was an especially effective debate; he came off like a bit of a dick. Which you need to be sometimes with Republicans, but there was a long list of more cerebral points he could have made.
Like how Bush has weakened the military (which is the usual Repub charge against the Dems), or how Bush’s early focus and planning on invading Iraq distracted him from the 9/11 warning memos, or how Bush’s diversion to Iraq made us less safe with respect to Afghanistan.
… not to mention, Republicans get great mileage out of saying that the President’s highest priority is to “Defend this nation” and “Keep this country safe.”
Not so… the President takes an oath to defend the Constitution. “We The People” are willing to bear some risk in order to defend the Constitution.
But Bush and the neo-cons have – somewhat successfully – introduced the meme that the President is entitled to take any action to keep the US 100% “safe” regardless of the Constitution.
So every time a Republican speaks of the duty to keep the nation safe they need to be reminded of the Presidential oath.
The president is not entitled (or required) to trash the Constitution to keep the country from getting a hangnail.
Great clip and while Sirota can look like a dick sometimes, he routinely pushes back on the stupid talking points pretty fiercely. And since this is cable news, the Rock’em, Sock’em Robots thing is more than appropriate. Repubs do the talking points by repeating the same untrue stuff over and over knowing full well they won’t be challenged much. Or they are challenged by cerebral types interested in treating information well. Which looks really wimpy on TV. And I noticed that Sirota challenging the talking points created a space for the newsreader to challenge the talking points too. More like this, I think…
Now just get to the point where the defenders of Bu$hCo begin walking off and/or completely lose it on camera….only constant beat-downs and public mockings can do that…
Q: Did George Bush keep us safe on 9/11 even though he was warned of an attack?
A: I think it is an idiotic question since we all know what happened on 9/11.
I was hoping he would ask her if she teabagged.
Right outta the park! Go Sirota.

Plus Bush was the most popular president EVER (for a few months) so that means he was great.
I think she actually said Obama came to office riding the wave of optimism that Bush created.
That is an amazing video.

I think she said he was the most popular president IN HISTORY.
Most poplah EVAH!!!
Pandora,
Wingnuts are openly praying for US cities to be blown up. Having thier insanity validated is that important to them.
I’m beginning to think so, J. All this talk about Obama making us less safe only works if something bad happens.

To continue anon’s point…he could have pointed out that our allies “on the fence” all jumped to the other side with the decision to invade Iraq.

Good stuff!

Here’s to many more!
“public mockings”
I’ll drink to that!
