Swine Flu: US Declares A Public Health Emergency

Filed in International, National by on April 26, 2009

Via HuffPo:

WASHINGTON — The U.S. is declaring a public health emergency to deal with the emerging new swine flu.

The precautionary step doesn’t signal a greater threat to Americans. But it allows the federal and state governments easier access to flu tests and medications.

It has also been confirmed that the eight NYC students are infected with Swine Flu.  Other states reporting outbreaks are Ohio, Kansas, Texas, and California.  Swine Flu is also suspected in Hong Kong, France, Spain, New Zealand, Israel, and Mexico.   Scary stuff.   My scientist friends have been predicting this for years.  One likened it to hurricanes by saying… we’re due.  Now, whether, or not, this will reach pandemic proportions is anybody’s guess, but the potential is there and must be taken seriously.  And for those calling for closing the southern borders (check out Delaware Politics new poll)… well, that’s a little like closing the barn door after the cows have gotten out.  It’s too damn late.

On the irony front:  Secessionist promoting Governor Rick Perry has asked the Federal Government’s help with the Swine Flu outbreak.

Does that mean you’ll stop calling those of us who want to enforce existing immigration laws racist xenophobes now?
