QOD

Is Arlen Specter any different that Delaware’s own infamous Party Switcher, John Atkins?  In the end, they are both serving themselves and have no other life beyond politics.  They can’t do anything else, and without what little power they weild are really weak, pointless, inconsequential, gutless human beings that have never served the interests of the people they represent only their own.

Bonus QOD:  Remember when we talked about torture last week?

  1. Delaware Dem says:

No. Atkins is much, much worse. For at least you can call Specter a moderate. And you can say he is principled in doing this.

Not so with Atkins. He got caught drinking and driving and tried to use the power of his office to cover it up. He resigned rather than face expulsion, but he wanted to return to power. So he ran again, this time as a Democrat. Nothing about him has changed at all. He is the same man as before.

  2. jason330 says:

I agree that neither stand for anything. (If Specter stood for some “moderate” principles he didn’t work very hard to get those principles on the agenda of the party he left.)

Atkins was kicked out of his party – although you can make a case that Specter felt kicked out after seeing he primary polling.

  3. jason330 says:

An additional bad guy in the Atkins scenario is Bob Gilligan.

  4. RSmitty says:

An additional bad guy in the Atkins scenario is Bob Gilligan.
Maybe, but I would be much, much harder on Pistol Pete for Atkins than I would Gilligan, seriously. Especially given that Atkins cancels any of Pete’s votes concerning the gay community. WTF, Pete, WTF?!

  5. BL says:

How are they different than any other politician?

The number one job of any politician is to get reelected…not serve the interests of the people.

  6. h. says:

You’ve basically described 90% of the politicians out there.

  7. Anonomous says:

“have never served the interest of the people they represent only thier own”?

He ran as a conservative and has voted as a conservative. Does that surprise you? You guys are a hoot!

p.s. People like him. Thats why he won. Get over it!

  8. jason330 says:

The number one job of any politician is to get reelected…not serve the interests of the people.

    That speaks volumes.

  9. Unstable Isotope says:

I think politicians serve their own self-interest a significant amount of the time but it’s still kind of shocking when it is so blatant.

  10. Delaware Dem says:

    Anonomous is back.

    How interesting.

  11. Maria Evans says:

Yes, Arlen Specter is different, he went to college, served in the military, got a law degree, opened his own law practice, worked for the AGs office, and came up with the magic bullet theory for the Warren Commission before he went to the US Senate.

  12. Anonomous says:

    Hey Maria, sour grapes?

  13. Maria Evans says:

Nope, just pointing out that Specter is educated which is a huge difference between him and Atkins.

  14. Delaware Dem says:

Hey Anonomous, we get it, Atkins won. That doesn’t make him a better person. And the fact that Sussex County voters like him does not speak well for them.

  15. David says:

Good Riddance to both. Switching improved both parties.

  16. Von Cracker says:

How’s that for the Rs…meaning Specter?

  17. Delaware Dem says:

    David…

How did getting Atkins improve the Dems? We don’t need him for the majority, and we are worse for his presence, in my opinion.

  18. Unstable Isotope says:

    VC,

It’s better because the Rs are getting to pure essence of wingnut, which they know is just what the American public wants.

  19. Anonomous says:

No Maria, the difference is that Spector did it the easy way. Switching mid-term. Atkins switched parties and then ran as D, and won!

By the way, Didn’t Atkins build a Business from the ground up and sell it for millions?

    Who’s the educated one?

How is your employment situation looking?

  20. Von Cracker says:

    That’s my understanding too, UI.

Everyone loves to drink distilled moonshine straight! lol

  21. donviti says:

did Specter ever beat his wife?

  22. David says:

I have to agree that Atkins did it the right way. He stood for election and won as a Democrat. I respect that.

As for how Atkins improved the Democrat party, he brings a little common sense to it.

  23. Maria Evans says:

Ajonamous Atkins sold his company for “millions” now? That sale number just keeps going up every time its discussed.

An education can help you learn your numbers.

  24. Maria Evans says:

You know, an education could also help Atkins learn his calendar, that way he won’t leave town during session to go to the islands.

  25. David says:

I am glad that someone of Atkins ethics is no longer part of the GOP. That is not a problem for Democrats because ethics are for little people not them.

  26. Anonomous says:

Maria, some say millions, some say several? I guess we both will never know, will we?

I still say it’s all over sour grapes, because your guy LOST THE ELECTION. Even after you talked him up day after day, babe….. catch ya later, chick.

  27. Maria Evans says:

There’s some things money can’t buy, like the kind of civility that prevents a man from offensively touching his wife.
