A Very Great Day
Maine’s House votes to approve same-sex marriage. This passed the Senate already so I think that this goes to the Governor for signature.
DC’s City Council votes to recognize same-sex marriages from states that allow them. It becomes law if Congress does not overturn it.

Hooray! Legalizing gay marriage has really got some momentum now. I remember readings dozens of posts in the 2006-2008 time period about how gay marriage activists should just back off, they’re going too far and they’re going to hurt their cause. These posts were wrong, obviously. This just reinforces my belief that you don’t get your rights by sitting back and waiting for people to give them to you if you’re nice and quiet about it.
They are. I think there will be serious changes in Maine the next election. That is so out of step with the majority it isn’t even close.
At least I will credit the New England activists with a positive change of strategy. Unlike MA and VT, they did not go to the courts first. They went to the legislature. That is the right way. People who don’t like it can take their case to the polls, people who like it can do the same. That is the system. It is nice to see it respected even if one does not respect the results.
Delusional David again. The people in Maine aren’t out of step with the majority. You’d think that you’d get the clue that making stuff up here isn’t tolerated. Perhaps the people on your own blog don’t mind being lied to, but just give it a rest here.
