Sports Betting Passes. Markell to Sign Bill This Week.

Filed in National by on May 12, 2009

The Delaware State Senate today passed the sports betting legislation, 17 yes, 2 no, and 2 (Adams, Simpson), not voting.

The Governor’s office released the following statement:

DOVER — Governor Jack Markell today thanked the legislature for passing the bill that would reactivate a sports lottery in Delaware and for bringing the state more than $50 million closer to solving the state’s historic revenue shortfall. Markell will sign the bill into law later this week.

“It’s time to come together and move forward to ensure that the Delaware Sports Lottery is a success. This will generate critical revenue to fund our core commitments as a government including public safety, education and economic development. Working together, this will also generate new revenue to our partners, Delaware’s three racinos,” Markell said.

“I am very pleased that the Senate acted so quickly to pass the sports lottery legislation and I very much appreciate the leadership from both sides of the aisle.  In particular, I want to thank Senator Deluca as the lead Senate Sponsor and the leadership in the House of Representatives who came together to get us closer to our meeting our budget challenges,” Markell said.

For one day at least, the Delaware Way lost its way.

The racinos got a big present in this….table games are on the table.

Can’t we make it illegal for Delaware residents to gamble at these places, concentrate on the Marylanders, Pennsylvanians, and New Jerseyites, then foreclose on these states when the debt gets big, then make Markell governor of the State of DePenMaryJer?

  7. So when Markell sets his mind to something, he can get it passed. That’s good to know.

Any one read the Constitution? The bill seems unconstitutional on its face. Table games are only allowed to charitable institutions.

Have you been to Dover lately? The government is a charity case.
