DOVER — Governor Jack Markell today thanked the legislature for passing the bill that would reactivate a sports lottery in Delaware and for bringing the state more than $50 million closer to solving the state’s historic revenue shortfall. Markell will sign the bill into law later this week.
“It’s time to come together and move forward to ensure that the Delaware Sports Lottery is a success. This will generate critical revenue to fund our core commitments as a government including public safety, education and economic development. Working together, this will also generate new revenue to our partners, Delaware’s three racinos,” Markell said.
“I am very pleased that the Senate acted so quickly to pass the sports lottery legislation and I very much appreciate the leadership from both sides of the aisle. In particular, I want to thank Senator Deluca as the lead Senate Sponsor and the leadership in the House of Representatives who came together to get us closer to our meeting our budget challenges,” Markell said.
For one day at least, the Delaware Way lost its way.
