Deep Electioneering Thought II

I can’t believe some Delaware Democrats are going to vote for a guy who started a third party in order to try and defeat Mike Barbieri.

  1. If you don’t vote that way that means you’ve been assimilated by the Borg.

  2. John Kowalko says:

My support for Brian Mcglinchey is not couched in any obligation to Brian or disrespect for John Daniello. It is not predicated on any IOU or feeling of obligation to any special interest or past support given to me or withheld from me.

It absolutely takes into consideration the fact that despite numerous occasions when my support and vote was cast opposite the opinion of labor leaders, (who were espousing within their oaths of office and in the interests of their constituencies), that Brian always, absolutely always, respected the point of view that I would decide, (as best I could), in the best interest of all Delawareans. He never, ever, disrespected that and never asked for a litmus test before offering his full and total commitment to me and all “PROGRESSIVE” candidates that held the people’s interest first.

I have been with the Progressive Dems of Delaware nearly from its inception at a meeting at the Iron Hill Brewery on Main Street. I feel very comfortable in my ability to draw conclusions as to those who have unabashedly supported Progressive politics and candidates and those who have shown a disdain for “PROGRESSIVES” behind the scenes and behind close doors. I draw those conclusions from personal encounters, conversations and experiences. I will not engage in negative assertions nor disrespect lifetime accomplishments but I support leadership that includes not excludes, in private and in public, that respects not disrespects all points of view and has a healthy, unabashed commitment to all Democratic principles and ideals. Leadership comes with an awesome burden to put aside personal feelings and generate a direction for open dialogue and objective consideration of all those who choose to gather under the great tent of the Democrat Party.

The party is based on some unyielding principles that we must always consider as an obligation to our members. It is composed of many parts that should never be excluded and always included.

Working class Americans and Delawareans are the Democratic Party. Working class people have always had the unflinching and dedicated support from organized labor. Sometimes it was only organized labor that fought the lonely fight for just pay, fair working conditions, health care availability for all middle class people.

Progressives are also the Democratic Party, the idealism we honor is not extremism, we are not half-baked, lunatic-fringe bit players just as our labor brothers and sisters are not self-absorbed, power-hungry special interests. We all make up the Democratic party. We are idealists, we are compassionate and we should not be content with what we are but only what we can do for everyone from the vulnerable to the powerless. Self-importance and maintaining power cannot be our only goal if we leave others behind.

I am supporting Brian McGlinchey because he mirrors the attitude and feelings I have for a unified and inclusive Democratic Party that feels comfortable displaying its feelings of compassion for all people.

  3. PI says:

Tomorrow gets more and more interesting. It seems that Patty Blevins is not seeking re-election as treasurer for the party. She is giving her full endorsement to Helene Keeley.

Anyone know if Helene is a delegate? Will she be supporting BMcG or JD? Any nominations from the floor?

  4. jason330 says:

    JK,

Christ oh mighty, that was pretty fucking persuasive. Thanks for that.

  5. RSmitty says:

JK, can you switch hats just for two minutes and I borrow you? I promise to return you unharmed (or Geek will rise and kick my ass).

  6. Belinsky says:

With all respect to John, I read nothing that persuades me one way or another. John’s was a generic essay with Brian’s name plopped in the middle. Reads like a speech on behalf of Chris Dodd circa 2/08.

  7. Kilroy says:

    John Kowalko
“The party is based on some unyielding principles that we must always consider as an obligation to our members. It is composed of many parts that should never be excluded and always included.”

    John ,
Will you be my sponors to join the Delaware Democratic Party? I am getting snub by the GOP leaders and perhaps all bridges are burned.
    I am serious!

You and Gilligan have treated me with the upmost respect despite my over the top campaigning.

You have great character and openness.

  8. jason330 says:

    Belinsky,

Agree or disagree with the endorsement, but nobody in the GA could have written that other than JK. Name one other person with half of the the balls, guts, guilelessness and heart of Kolwalko.

    There is nobody.

  9. Kilroy says:

“Name one other person with half of the the balls, guts, guilelessness and heart of Kolwalko. ”

No shit ! Wow! but you could spell his name correctly little-kilroy lol

  10. Bill Dunn says:

John Kowalko wrote, “He never, ever, disrespected that and never asked for a litmus test before offering his full and total commitment to me and all “PROGRESSIVE” candidates that held the people’s interest first.”

To you John, that is most likely true, to all “PROGRESSIVE” candidates, that is most likely NOT true.
You might want to stick to only personal experiences.

    We’ll talk tomorrow.

  11. RSmitty says:

I can see that point, Bill. I certainly saw how that played out in the Dem primary down in my council district (#12). There is no good reason Sell should still be there.

  12. Rebecca says:

John, ya know I love you. I’ll always support you to my utmost and you are truly unique in the Delaware General Assembly.

Sorry we’ve got to disagree on this but once it’s over I know we will both pitch in and support the winner and work to elect Democrats. 2010 is so crucial because of reapportionment. We’ve got to hold all those seats that Daniello won.

  13. Perry says:

This is why I have always respected John Kowalko, and it has now been confirmed in spades.

Rebecca, it would be interesting to know why you do not concur. This is an important election for us!

  14. Not to challenge the miffs over Spence and Barbieri by the organized progressives, but they are refusing to appreciate that McGlinchey was doing his day job when he wrote the check for GOP or to the WFP on their behalf.

He was working union strategy and earning his living doing that.

Since when can’t a person earn a living? [E.G. John Flaherty always said that Pam Scott has a right to earn a living, the question becomes whether Paul Clark crosses ethical lines for her benefit.]

Dana Garrett discusses this, saying that McGlinchey’s job has moved any conflict with their employee’s loyalty to the DEM party out of the way. He won’t be involved with support for Republicans going forward.

The conflicts are gone? Move on? Spence and Lofink are gone anyway.

I just don’t think that McGlinchey should be punished for implementing union strategy that he was paid to do, as Government Liaison.

  15. Spence and Lofink are gone, but Oberle is still there. Oberle is the Republican we’re going to challenge in my district. Do you see the problem?

  16. I realize that and what I said still rides.

No more help through Brian. Period. It’s over. You would have to take him at his word…but now – how about John?

Is John Daniello speaking to you about never again spending DEM money against another DEM in the primary? Or do you trust him?

Is he speaking to you about not forcing endorsements waaaaaaaay to early in the process? Do you want a Daniello who furiously works against primaries as a rule? How can progressives get anywhere with that status quo?

    You know what’s going on.

Actually I have heard that Oberle is likely to retire.

  17. liberalgeek says:

Yes, we have all heard that one. In fact, I have heard it for about 5 years now.
