Republican National Committee Credibility Hangs on Castle Decision

Filed in Delaware, National by on May 17, 2009

Celia thinks that the RNC is pinning its hope for an electoral resurgence on Congressman Mike “However” Castle.

David Winston, a Republican pollster brought in to speak to the convention, made the case. “This is a tide turner. It’s essential if we’re going to turn momentum around and get people in the rest of the country to realize how to win elections,” he said. “We have to win here.”

Those are pretty slender shoulders upon which to place the dreams the entire Republican party. And yet, for all the GOP’s bluster about Castle’s strength, Celia somehow forgot to mention that the mighty Mike Castle stayed away from the convention itself and only felt up for a little glad handing at a Friday night pre-convention party. (Although on the plus side, she managed to write about the Dem convention without slobbering all over Tom Carper.)

  1. Art Downs says:

No doubt the Democrat opponent will make Castle seem palatable to every Republican and the more rational Democrats.

  2. Wow, what an endorsement!

  3. jason330 says:

Castle is just going to enjoy all the ass kissing be can get between now and his self imposed decision deadline of June first.

  4. Translation: “We need Mike Castle to keep Obama’s agenda from being implemented. We need Mike Castle to keep the filibuster alive. We need Mike Castle to keep the pro-abortionists and the gay-rights crowd from controlling the Supreme Court.”

And that is precisely what his Democratic opponent needs to say at every turn. What the Rethugs need is an obstructionist, and they’ve recruited Mike Castle to be that guy.

  5. jason330 says:

Some people in the Biden camp that are praying for it to be Mike Castle.

    We’ll know on June 1st.

  6. I’m rubbing my hands in anticipation of June 1st. Game on!

  7. ‘Bulo should have added:

“We need Mike Castle to vote for impeachment, just like he did with Bill Clinton.”

  8. cassandra_m says:

Bulo @4 is quite right — because Castle would be a VERY junior Senator and won’t have much interesting to do or to really contribute. He is being encouraged to run to join the obstructionism — certainly not for anything that he could do for Delaware.
