DE GOP News – Spot the Typo Edition
I know, I know…I should be the last person to point out someone else’s typo, but I’m a blogger – not the state’s third most important political party.
Castle Realized for Efforts in Bringing Teach for America to Delaware
Congressman Mike Castle joined with other state and local leaders, as well as Teach for America officials, at Wilmington University to announce the expansion of the Teach for America Program to the Red Clay School District next school year. For Rep. Mike Castle, today’s announcement was the culmination of several years of hard work with the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee, Teach for America, as well as state and local officials.
At first I though it was “realized,” but then I figured out you must be referring to “hard work.”
Would it be to substitute “recognized” for “realized”?
Good catch Steve. I glossed right over that typo… 🙂
Unless this is another one of those things wherein Republicans make up new meanings for words, “realized” does not make sense.
That is not a typo, necessarily.
One definition of realize is “give actual or physical form to” so it basically means that he showed up as in:
Castle Showed Up for Efforts in Bringing Teach for America to Delaware
Basically, “showing up” is all he has done his whole career.
In that case the “for” is the typo.
OK, I did it! I am the new communcations director for Mike Castle. It was my press release. LOL
One definition of realize is “give actual or physical form to”
As soon as the giant novelty check was carted off the stage, Castle dematerialized and returned to the ether.
It is one thing to make a big deal about a typo but what of the real issue?
We have an educational establishment that stresses mindless credentialism over subject matter expertise. Education should be knowledge based.
Is public education in Delaware any more cost effective than that in the District of Columbia? Are boards of education gold-plated bureaucratic ratholes that demand more and more tax dollars?
Do the students really benefit from trendy and overpriced ‘packages’ that are of questionable educational value?
Is a well-placed political hack with a masters degree in education really worth nearly a half million dollars a year?
Perhaps we need a return to knowledge-based education. Mike Castle may well be on the right track with this one.
This is not an indictment of teachers per se but of a bureacratized system that will often not let them teach with a true enthusiasm for the subject matter.
Dang it! That reminds me. I forgot to add Art to the least liked conservatives poll.
Still, a student will be challenged to learn something a Teacher does not know. Mastery of your subject is paramount.
Mike Protack
Protack – thanks… as if teachers aren’t masters of their subject… what a poor assumption!
