The War On Sotomayor Is Ineffective
There are new poll results from the Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll. Click on the link to get the full results (including regional and party breakdowns).
Overall numbers:
Opinion of Sotomayor: 56 favorable, 29 unfavorable
On whether Sotomayor is a racist: 8 yes, 61 no
On whether “empathy” is important for a justice: 52 yes, 29 no
On whether she is qualified: 54 yes, 26 no
Opinion of Rush Limbaugh: 27 favorable, 65 unfavorable
Kos points out that Sotomayor’s favorables even beat Limbaugh’s in the South. I guess having Limbaugh and Gingrich in charge of the GOP talking points wasn’t helping very much.
Late update: Now Michael Steele is calling Sotomayor a racist. I guess he’s really getting a lot of heat from the 8%.

This is good news, especially since every bit of GOP crazy talk gets to be featured on the news on this nomination. Good to know that people don’t find all of that crazy at all credible.
I think her recognition numbers must be quite high. 56-29 gives only 15% undecided. I find her favorables quite amazing actually since the GOP has been bashing her for days now, virtually unopposed.
Steele is an idiot. And unaware, apparently, that he owes every bit of his current position to the inept way the GOP tries to do identity politics.
There goes FSP’s meme about the racist talk coming from the “private” Republican sector.
I hear she ruled in favor of selling beer and wine in super markets.
“I hear she ruled in favor of selling beer and wine in super markets.”
No, she didn’t. You may think she ruled that way, but in reality it was a clerical error.
“There goes FSP’s meme about the racist talk coming from the “private” Republican sector.”
Sadly, you appear to be right about that.
Keep posting polls which do not matter.
The real test will be during the confirmation hearings, her statements in her words will hit home pretty hard.
Bottom line she was chosen because of her ethnicity and sex not her legal mind.

Wow, Mike wants his victory a Least Favorite Conservative Commenter Visiting Delaware Liberal to be his last victory.
“As a wise white man of Northern European orgin, I will, more often than not, reach a better conclusion than a Hispanic woman.”
Imagine the outrage. Double standard, anyone?
Keep talking asswipe. Your GOP talking points have no traction so you can keep going with this uniformed BS until the cows come home for all I care.
Rick’s one of the 8%.
“As a wise white man of Northern European orgin, I will, more often than not, reach a better conclusion than a Hispanic woman.”
So you know that not only was this the guiding principle of government and corporate leadership int he USA for the majority of its history, right? And you also know that this is the core principle of the GOP’s Southern Strategy, right? The one that is killing you now….
“Imagine the outrage. Double standard, anyone?”
News alert: Yes, we have a double standard, Rick. Sorry you just got the memo; it was written decades ago.
Why is it that none of the people who bitch about affirmative action would have gotten the job anyway?
“Bottom line she was chosen because of her ethnicity and sex not her legal mind.”
As was Clarence Thomas.
By the way, there has never been a standard of choosing “the best legal minds” for the Supreme Court. Ever. Read some history while you’re on autopilot.
I think it’s a huge leap to say that Sotomayor was not chosen for her legal mind. She is the best-qualified nominee in 30 years in terms of experience.
Brilliant response, Jason!
I know. Stupid Republican asswipes lazily parroting Rush Limbaugh brings out my “A” game.
Another lefty suffering from “Limbaugh Paranoia Syndrome.”
callerRick needs to hang it up
Ahhh….that traditional whiff of leftist censorship!
Come on now….”Four legs good, two legs bad….”
