Virginia governor Democratic primary

That was over quick. State senator Creigh Deeds pulls off an impressive victory over a big name with big money Terry McAuliffe.

Democratic Primary For Governor (70% of Precincts Reporting)

Creigh Deeds 101,278 (50%)
Terry McAuliffe 53,117 (26%)
Brian Moran 48,632 (24%)

Deeds will face Republican Attorney General Bob McDonnell in November.

Chrysler BK

The Supreme Court lifts the stay on the Chrysler bankruptcy. That means the sale of Chrysler to Fiat can go forward. The court made clear, though, that this doesn’t necessarily means that a GM bankruptcy will automatically go forward.

Ending more than three days of intense, round-the-clock and high-stakes legal maneuvering in the Supreme Court, the Justices on Tuesday evening without dissent removed a legal obstacle to sale of the troubled auto industry giant, Chrysler.

Insisting that it was denying a postponement β€œin this case alone,” the two-page order said the challengers had not met their burden of showing that a delay was justified. The reference to this case alone perhaps was a signal that the Court did not want its order to appear to give advance clearance for any other government rescue plan β€” such as that to save another auto company, General Motors.

The order allows a closing of the deal by no later than next Monday, because it lifts a temporary stay that Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had issued on Monday; she did so, apparently, only to give the Court time to ponder the issue.

Deeds winning is impressive. Every time I was in the DC area it looked as though T Mac had just bought all of the TV stations. I think that Moran was the more progressive candidate, but a Deeds win is good.

I hope the libs are happy. Celebrate now. This is the end of the Republic. Not that the government can willfully interfere with contracts in clear violation of the constitution and the Supreme Court will not even give the question a hearing, this government has no legitimacy. I guess it was a good ride. It is all downhill from here. I sense that speed is picking up already.

Another bit of wingnuttery heard from.

    OK

    The government breaking union contracts

    NOT OK

The government breaking contracts with hedge fund billionaires.

I finally feel vindicated. I’ve owned five FIAT products; a 124 Abarth Spyder racecar (SCCA), a 124 Spyder, an X 1/9 (mid-engine), a Strada and a Lancia Beta HPE (Fiat product). They were all great handling and reliable cars, and the Lancia was quite elegant. Oh, the times I’ve heard “FIAT!…fix it again Tony!” Who’s laughing now?

FIAT is one of the oldest automobile manufacturers, and Lancia himself was a FIAT engineer, before starting his own company.

The initials F.I.A.T., translated to English, mean “Manufacturer of Italian Automobiles in Turin.”

  6. So, you’re not going to participate in the wingnut boycott of Chrysler?

  7. callerRick says:

    No, but I haven’t bought a brand-new car since ’74.

The Virgina primary was intersting and it showed that a slick and expensive campaign can be seen as a bit too slick. Moran went way to the left and got his comuppance of the polls. He and TerryMac both got all a-twitter in their attacks on Deeds for his common sense votes of firarms issues.

It appears that the RKBA is a shocking third rail in politics.
