HB1 Signed Into Law

Filed in Delaware by on June 12, 2009

At 2 p.m., Governor Markell signed the open government bill, HB1 into law. (I’m sorry for my crappy photography, I just got a new camera phone.) He made short remarks about how he campaigned on open government. With him at the signing were Senator Karen Peterson, House Speaker Bob Gilligan and Representative John Kowalko.

The green-shirted OOGA supporters were there in full force.

Congratulations, Delaware!

  1. My first try as a reporter. Yes, I suck. There was lots of media there, including our fellow bloggers Celia Cohen and Mike Matthews.

  2. PBaumbach says:

Representative Brad Bennett from the 32nd was also there.

  3. June says:

John Kowalko was going to call the JFC at 2:30 and tell them TO OPEN THE DOORS.

  4. Did they open the doors? I can’t wait until they open those budget meetings. I’m betting that they did a lot of the contentious stuff behind closed doors while they could.

    You did great, UI. Thanks!

  6. jason330 says:

I’m glad that I made them pass this bill.

  7. Rebecca says:

Great job U.I. and I was so glad to see you there in your green tee-shirt. You can see the green-tee shirts were out in force!

    WHOOOOO HOOOOO!

  8. PI says:

The doors opened at 2 and the first thing voted on was the 2.5% paycut for state employees.

Excellent job, UI — thanks so much for going on our behalf.

  10. Jason,

I know it was all due to you and your open body. It had to be tempting to you to show up that way for the bill signing. That would have been so awesome.

  11. jason330 says:

Then Kowalko, Peterson , Gilligan and Markell would have taken off their shirts and it would have been pandemonium.

  12. FSP says:

Nice to see JFC had time to work it out before the doors were opened.

  13. Very nice job reporting the story.

Now, Inspector General, Initiative, Referendum, Recall and Term Limits.

  14. jason330 says:

We have term limits dummy. They are called elections. Your term limit is 0.0 years in office.

  15. It is a good day. We should celebrate HB 1 day.

Jason that is called terms of office. Term limits means the terms of office are limited. Pay attention. You are as bad as John Still was in explaining his opposition to them.

I agree with Mike pretty much. I would drop term limits. They haven’t helped. I can’t point to one place that they given a long term improvement of government. You just replace long term socialists with revolving door socialists unless you educate the public.

Talking about term limits on this day is like talking about sperm donations on Christmas.

    Save it for another thread.

But HB 1 day I hope to celebrate next year with a post…

Hell it should be the day of the annual bloggers convention.
