Interesting Nancy Cook Mafia Post

Filed in National by on June 14, 2009

Hearing that Nancy W. was taking my name in vain again, I went over to DWA. I’m glad I did because I hadn’t heard this…

Sen Nancy Cook wants her son to be state treasurer.

Mike hears that “the party is willing to oblige.” because the senior-most woman in the party (Sen. Cook).

Tom Cook is currently the Deputy Secretary of Finance. I don’t know if he would be good or terrible, but couldn’t we please try to appear a little less self-serving?

  1. Another member of the Delaware aristocracy?

  2. Here’s what the public knows: If he’s anything like his mom (who inherited her Senate seat after the death of her husband), he is opposed to open government, and will thumb his nose at it every chance he gets.

  3. PBaumbach says:

Nancy, Here’s a novel idea! STFU and have your son actually speak for himself, presenting the reasons that DE should consider him for state treasurer.

“Cuz Nancy Cook says so” is actually a (strong) negative in my book. While your fellow legislators may like sucking up to you, there are others who feel that experience, vision, and character counts for more than keeping Nancy Cook happy.

  4. I have worked with Tom and have only the highest regard for him! He is a professional, hard working advocate for the Dept. of Finance and the State. I don’t care who his parent is, if he wants to run for Treasurer then all I can say is You Go Tom!!!! He has earned the right to be judged on his own merits. If you don’t know him then save your breath until you do. He has experience, vision and character and my support if he wants to run!

  5. John Manifold says:

I’m all for judging candidates on their own horsepower, and not on their parents’. That’s one of the unifying themes of this blog, I believe.

Cook rescued the Election Commissioner’s office – does anyone remember its stagnation under Rich Harper? – and has been a hugely competent deputy secretary of finance.

Paul: Nancy Cook does not have the ability to get someone a statewide nomination. That’s why we have a Woo-Tenant Governor. If Tom Cook gets the nomination, it will because of his own work over 15 or so years as a top-tier state administrative official.
