During the Green Revolution in Iran, you should really be reading two sites every hour:
The Dish by Andrew Sullivan at The Atlantic.
Liveblogging the Uprising by Nico Pitney at the Huffington Post.
Both have been amazing. Watching history happen there and on Twitter has been one of the more memorable historical experiences of my life, and it has revealed to me that our traditional media is dead. What did Larry King talk about last night? American Idol. And this is not a partisan thing, because Fox only had a one minute story on it yesterday as well, and then they returned to bashing Obama for his healthcare speech.
Yes, it has been very cool. I wish the best for all the citizens of Iran.
You may disagree, but I prefer Larry King talk about unimportant topics. Who turns to Larry King for insight into Iran?
Juan Cole is also required reading.
Gee, it is no wonder why most of America just stayed home when Bush stole the 2000 election.
We ALL should have been in the streets.
Geezer’s right for sure about Larry King.
I think it’s a big problem though that our media turns to self-styled experts on Iran, like neocons. Those guys didn’t know what they were talking about regarding Iraq so they shouldn’t be trusted near a microphone about Iran.
Iran coverage on BBC news has been excellent.(Channel 107 if you have Verizon Fios)
As for experts on Iran, my Iranian friends tell me Mousavi would be just as bad as Ahmedinejad, just less vocal about it – they still voted for him, but more in protest against A-Jad than in actual support of the opposition candidate – and remember his candidacy was also approved by the mullahs. Also, when he was PM, Mousavi was the one who got the Iranian nuclear weapons program started.
Historical tidbit: Mousavi was Ollie North’s opposite number in the Iran-Contra deal to get TOW missiles for hostages.
GRex…. the choices in Iran are horrible and less horrible. The only bright spot is this uprising by the people.
Breaking: Larry King to discuss Iran tonight. Geezer subsequently has coronary.
