How Did That Anti-Sotomayor Campaign Work Out?
The Republicans already admitted that the Sotomayor nomination fight has failed to inspire the donations they expected. Now some polling has shown how much their over-the-top crazy rhetoric has hurt their standing with Latinos.
Favorability of Republican Party among Latinos

That’s a 10 point swing in one month. Ouch!

I’m sure wingnuts think that it failed because they didn’t go MORE negative.
So what you are saying is that standing on principle should only happen when it is beneficial in the polls.
Thanks s for clarifying that you are nothing more than a political whore.
See?
Standing on what principle? That she’s a Latina and we should be worried about her time of the month?
Seriously, you guys gave up principles a while ago. Republicans’ behavior towards Sotomayor had nothing to do with principle or policy and everything to do with racism and sexism.
You’re right Jason, it’s like a magnet to crazy.
Yes, I don’t understand what principle they are standing up for. The principle that white men are the natural, unbiased leaders of the country and that everyone else has to prove themselves?
If you ever need a tent shrunk, get a Republican for the job.
What a shitbomb of a party! 😆
And the best part is that its philosophies have brought them to this level of ridicule.
Her decision on the New Haven promotions will be reversed by the Supreme Court.
Do a poll after that fact.
Once again, is she the best legal mind in the US or would she have been considered if she was not Latina? Of course not on both counts.
How do you justify a vote for her when Obama voted against Roberts and Alito?
Mike Protack
Republicans are free to vote against Sotomayor. Some have already said they will without even meeting with her.
Obama explained why he voted against Roberts and Alito, which he is free to do.
She is the most qualified SCOTUS judge in my lifetime. More qualified than Roberts and Alito. Roberts, BTW, had a 100% reversal rate by SCOTUS.
“Once again, is she the best legal mind in the US or would she have been considered if she was not Latina? Of course not on both counts.”
Once again, Supreme Court seats have never gone to the “best legal minds” in the US. They have always been political appointments. See Jeffrey Toobin’s recent “Talk of the Town” piece in the New Yorker:

I don’t think MP is qualified to judge who is the best legal mind.
“Her decision on the New Haven promotions will be reversed by the Supreme Court.”
More bravado based not on fact but your opinion.
You do realize, I hope, that your next primary opponent has reams of material from this site and other sites to embarrass you with?
Mike P once again get your facts straight she went with the law as it stands on that case maybe we all don’t agree but for her or the others judges to do different would have made them activist. Because Roberts who forgets the oath of office and Aleto who relies on his background for his decisions are real jerks.
Let’s see — she has a history of racist and sexist statements, unethical membership in an organization that practices invidious sex discrimination, and a number of decisions that raise questions as to her sensitivity to the requirements of the Constitution with regard to racial discrimination and freedom of speech.
Those would be sufficient reasons for me to oppose a conservative jurist, and they are sufficient reason to oppose Sotomayor.
