The 2012 Republican Presidential Waters Are A Little Stagnant

Filed in National by on August 12, 2009

Add Rick Santorum to the lackluster list of Republicans seeking the Presidency – and I do mean lackluster.  Take a look at who’s in the running.

Huckabee, Gingrich, Romney, Palin, and now Santorum.  There’s also talk of Thune, DeMint, and Cantor.

Not sure about anyone else, but I’m feeling pretty good about this line-up.  BTW, congratulations to the Conservatives.  You won control of the party… not a “RINO” in sight.

  1. Palin/Bachmann 2012! It’ll be a historic ticket the first crazy/really crazy ticket in history!

Now, now, there’s still time….whoda thought in 2005 a guy named Barack Obama would be doing what he’s doing? Only in America…..

  3. anon says:

Watching this bunch try to out-crazy each other will be a treat for the ages.

TPM called it Christmas in August.

  5. JimD says:

Joanne makes a good point, though this reminds me a bit of Democrats leading up to 04. Once Hillary decided she wanted no part of fighting W (which was a huge mistake in hindsight) we were left with a largely unspectacular bunch. Though, its not like Republicans had a field full of awesome in 08.

  6. jason330 says:

JC has a good point, but JimD gets closer to the truth. 2012 is the year of the GOP ideological freak-out. Republicans with brains will stay out of the mud fight and it will be a clear field for craziness. Obama will cruise to re-election against the Republican who acts the craziest in the primary thereby vexing 21% of the population pushing them further off the deep end.

  7. Joanne Christian says:

Well there’s a lot of scandal, sure to happen between now and then coming. Makes me nervous…not you guys:)?!!

  8. They shine in comparison to the man who is President now. Obama will cruise to defeat on his own.

He will have to raise taxes, he will have failed on health care, he will have done nothing on immigration and the deficits will be at record levels with high unemployment.

If the Dems care about America, a principled Democrat will launch a primary campaign against the charismatic failure called Obama.

    What are you? The Oracle?

    More like the Bore-acle.

  11. Scott P says:

If I were a rational, semi-moderate, intelligent Republican (don’t worry Mike, I’m sure it’s no one you know), I would steer clear of 2012. The economy will be well into recovery (it already is) and Obama will be re-elected easly against some wingnut candidate, since I think only one of those could win a GOP nomination right now(Palin/Bachmann makes me smile). After that disaster and years of fringe-induced craziness, the moderates might regain control of the ship. Then you might see someone like Huntsman or Pawlenty give it a try.

  12. Pawlenty would be a good one. Huntsman can stay in China. Romney leads the President in meaningless polls right now. Palin is close behind. Polling means very little as a predictive measure this far out. What it does mean is that you are way off in your view of the top three front runners.

If Democrats give the President what Nancy Pelosi is proposing, he will not get reelected. The economy will at best imitate the lost decade of Japan. They are proposing the same polices.
