The Bible is apparently too liberal….

…so the conservatives are going to rewrite the Bible.

I am not joking.

They are going to edit the word of God to make it fit their ideology.

Seriously.

There are no words.

What are some of the areas these godless hell-bound heathens want to edit?

Declaring that “Liberal bias has become the single biggest distortion in modern Bible translations”, they have embarked on an ambitious project to strip all Christian principles from the Christian Bible.

Step 1–get rid of Luke 23:34:[7]:

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

This quotation is a favorite of liberals but should not appear in a conservative Bible.

Step 2–Reaffirm the well-known fact that Jesus was a capitalist:

Socialistic terminology permeates English translations of the Bible, without justification. This improperly encourages the “social justice” movement among Christians.

So, in the new conservative Bible, there is no forgiveness, and there is no caring for the poor.

Unfuckingbelievable.

Conservatives used to ignore facts when facts conflicted with their ideology. Now they are going to ignore faith.

    Wouldn’t want any social justice.

This idea shouldn’t surprise me. When one considers how much fundamental criticism of modern translations of the Bible circulates on the religious right it only follows logically that a ‘correct’ translation would eventually follow. I find myself wondering whether they plan a real translation or simply an editing and redaction of the ‘objectionable’ quotes?

Wait until they do a rewrite of the Constitution since something has obviously been lost in the translation from 18th Century English to modern-day English.

    Eclectic Radical…

The Conservapedia site must have crashed from others visiting the site to mock them.

Not to justify it, but are you aware that Thomas Jefferson also rewrote the bible? In it, he cut out any references to Christs divinity (no resurrection, no virgin birth, etc.)

  7. Yes, I think their servers are a bit overloaded. I’m not surprised because this was rocketing around the blogosphere yesterday afternoon and evening.

The new conservative bible ups the vengeance factor — because what movement conservative doesn’t want someone to get some paybacks. especially against liberals.

Jefferson rewrote the Bible in accordance with his Deist beliefs — a fact that is the elephant in the room for the people who claim that the US was founded as a Christian nation. The Jefferson Bible also turned out to be something as an intellectual exercise for Jefferson and perhaps a few of his friends. I’m not sure it ever got published.

It is my understanding from Wikipedia that it was not published during his lifetime, but that after his death it was not only published (you can download it today) but a copy was given to incoming members of Congress.
