As public health departments in this country and many other countries prepare for the flu season, they must now cope with what’s being called the Canadian problem. There’s evidently a study somewhere in Canada that links getting a seasonal flu shot to an increased risk of contracting swine flu, albeit a mild case. Very few people have actually seen the data, but various Canadian provincial authorities are rethinking flu shots because of it and some have actually gone beyond rethinking.

A group from British Columbia, the British Columbia Centers for Disease Control looked at some vaccine efficacy databases that they had earlier in the year. And seemed to see – there was a higher rate of swine flu cases in people who had had a seasonal flu shot last fall than there were in people who hadn’t had a seasonal flu shot last fall. So that started an investigation.
don’t Canadians understand if they don’t give out this vaccine that millions of dollars could be lost by the company making it? WTF is wrong with them.
So enjoy that flu shot this year y’all. I’m sure it’s safe. The manufactures would never hide data or lead you to believe otherwise.
Flu shots are safe. I’ve already had my seasonal flu shot and I plan on getting the swine flu vaccine as soon as it’s available.

One thing for sure though their healthcare may not be the best but they do care for the unemployed workers. I went to pick up meds today and the clerk asked for 200.00 and I said I am on the state’s plan. He ask for my insurance card. So I showed him my dated unemployment check. His response was security security! I said, wait wait let’s not go that way, I can go without the Viagra because the hard-on I have for Arne Duncan might get me through the night.
You know what’s so odd? It’s seems more Americans are protesting Canada’s heathcare than Canadians! You think with they’d be pouring in the streets.
Real question?? How do you feel about paying taxes on the employer’s share of healthcare contributions?

While I can appreciate your support and rolling up your sleeve for a fellow scientist w/ the swine flu shot—I think I’ll sit this one out. Sebellius granted complete legal immunity to the drug companies for this round of immunizations back in July, and the WHO has suspended “tracking” new cases(unless clusters of abberencies arise), that I’ll just donate my reserved shot to one of those fatalists out there.

Yes I agree they are the same! They are safe and odds are more people died in traffic accidents going to get them then from the shot. If the season flu shot noted what the name of the flu strain was it would raise the same concerns as the swine flu short

Yea, but I’ll be fine…to piggyback on Kilroy’s comment, because with my mandated seatbelts that auto accident will be minimalized :), but I won’t catch a cold.
