Wingnut Alert: Obama Golfs More Than Bush

Filed in National by on October 26, 2009

Yesterday, President Obama went out golfing. Two things made this news worthy. This outing was the first time as Presdient that Obama has golfed with a woman reports The Washington Post. The second item, and the most scandalous from the wingnut point of view (sadly I know), President Obama has now tied President George W. Bush with 24 rounds of golf played reports Politico. The horrors, the horrors.

pretty sure a big fuss was made over Bush golfing while we were at war…. we are still at war…. lefty double standard much?

  2. nemski says:

Nah, hitting the links is a good thing. I prefer to DiscGolf though. Anywho, for me, Bush’s vacations were a much bigger problem them him playing golf.

  3. I don’t care if Obama plays golf and I didn’t care if Bush played golf. I agree with nemski, the endless vacations were more of a problem, especially since he always seemed to be on vacation when disaster struck.

  4. Progressive Mom says:

Actually, the “bush not golfing during war ” thing was started by Bush, as I recall, who made some remark about how he was giving up golf because of the war.

Sorry, but it wasn’t a lefty thing. It was a rightie thing.

Here’s the comment you were referring to, PM. Good memory!

  6. Another Mike says:

I’m disappointed … that he’s golfing while wearing a tie. Violation!

  7. nemski says:

When golfing, you can tie one on, but you can’t wear a tie.

FYI, the photo is a copyleft photo from wikicommons and does not represent Obama and the gang golfing yesterday.

My question is, how many times a round does he get called “Tiger”?

NOW President on President Obama’s All-Male Athletic Outings: ‘It’s Troubling’

    ABC ^ | 10/26/2009 | Jake Tapper
We asked Terry O’Neill, the new president of the National Organization for Women, what she thought of those Democratic women and others quietly complaining about a “boy’s club” atmosphere at the White House, as exemplified by the president playing basketball earlier this month with 11 members of Congress and four Cabinet Secretaries — all men. As the New York Times and cable news chatter looked at whether the Obama White House is too fratty yesterday, President Obama brought along a woman golf partner for the first time in his 24 golf outings as president, domestic policy adviser Melody Barnes. Is…

no matter what you do, somone is always upset.

  10. cassandra_m says:

The guys in the office here belong to a golf league and have golfed way more than Obama has this year. The ladies here don’t care about not being included on the golf league — we mix up a batch of margaritas while they are gone and talk about them. Works for us.

  11. John Manifold says:

Mark Leibovich’s silly article in yesterday’s Times [“an impression dating to the presidential campaign that Mr. Obama’s closest advisers form a boys’ club and that he is too frequently in the company of only men …”] reminds us that Alterman’s book, What Liberal Media, remains on point.

  12. Remember, folks:

It’s OK when Obama does what Bush was criticized for by liberals — and you are a racist if you think otherwise.

  13. Von Cracker says:

“Now watch me deride this drive!”

As always, your logic is astounding, rwr.

  14. pandora says:

I didn’t even care about Bush golfing, until he told me to.

  15. cassandra m says:

So, rwr — run out of new names, or what?

Bush gives up golf in “solidarity” with the troops (which in itself is pretty craven — like the war = lent or something)

Bush lied about giving up golf (among other things)

  16. Cassandra — WTF are you talking about?

  17. nemski says:

LOL, this Wonkette story about Obama and his hatred of the ladies is fantastic.

. . . we return to that years-old question of whether Barack Obama either modestly dislikes women, or hates every single woman’s fucking guts. This was a hot topic last year when Barack Obama defeated a woman in a presidential primary, a heinous display of chauvinism. Why not crap on Susan B. Anthony’s grave and punch Lucretia Mott in the boob, while you’re at it? And now Obama has done something far worse: played various sports with coteries of men, instead of women.

  18. ArmyChap says:

Actually the real newsy part, LEFT out (like the pun?) was that Obama ties Bush for rounds of golf in only 9 months what it took Bush in more than two and a half years to do… Maybe O should have read GEN McChrystal’s report O asked for after hand-picking the GEN to make an Afghanistan assessment. Golfing while Afghanistan burns?

  19. Progressive Mom says:

..Maybe Georgie should have read the pre-9/11 intelligence report….oh, wait, it has the word “intelligence” in it….

  20. ArmyChap says:

Very intelligent:), ad hominem answer. Actually James Taranto says it best in the WSJ, at http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703574604574499540276734118.html

  21. nemski says:

ArmyChap that Taranto post is a piece of shit.

  22. nemski says:

Actually, Maureen Dowd’s op-ed, Oval Man Cave, is a good condemnation of Obama’s man pals.

  23. nemski says:

And Kathleen Parker at the WaPo takes the opposite tact with Obama vs. the full PC press.

Obama’s basketball game, thus, has become a convenient metaphor for an inconvenient truth. Generally speaking, guys prefer to play ball with other guys, just as women prefer to form book clubs with other women. That’s not because women don’t like men (and vice versa) but because when relaxing, women mostly want to drink wine together. And talk about men. I don’t know what men do on the basketball court that is so compelling, but they apparently need it, and I don’t.

    “Oval Man Cave” sounds NSFW.

I am dismayed and deeply apologetic to my fans for not picking up on this earlier. I blame the shock over Agassi’s “gack” moment.
