Congratulations All Around for Fisker
The press conference/Pep rally for the announcement that the Boxwood Rd. auto plant has just concluded. We will now refer to the plant as the Fisker plant. I am still in a state of shock. It was a tour de force of Delaware politicos. Huge kudos are in order for Governor Markell for his attention to this issue and for putting together this event. Getting Joe Biden was the perfect touch.
Some key points:
- Joe Biden still has it
- Delawareonline may not have a future as a newspaper, but as a broadcaster they rock
- Jack Markell knows how to woo businesses
- Combining this with the smart grid announcement today by President Obama will position Delaware in the catbird seat (remember Willett Kempton? He’s back…)
- Geeks are cool again
- Fast cars don’t have to burn through gas at a rate of 10mpg
- Healthcare reform is essential to bringing this economy back from the brink
If you missed it, don’t sweat it. Here it is. Watch it and feel the goosebumps.

The Obama administration is giving a jolt to the futuristic “smart” electric grid, hoping to more quickly bring America’s power transmission system into the digital age.
President Barack Obama, during a visit to a solar energy facility in Arcadia, Fla., announced that he is making available $3.4 billion in government support for 100 projects aimed at modernizing the power grid.
The projects include installing “smart” electric meters in homes, automating utility substations, and installing thousands of new digital transformers and grid sensors.
More good CHANGE.
You are forgetting the guy who actually did it,Alan Levin. May GOD bless Markell and Levin for the effort.
And here is Graceless David, who apparently did not watch this event. Even the pols here shared plenty of the credit — Levin got plenty as did the development folks on Carper’s and Kaufmann’s staff. As did lots of other people. This was a very big get and taking our cues from the people who spoke — there is an awful lot of credit to be shared here.
Congratulations to all of ’em. A big deal like this doesn’t happen without all hands on deck. There was some Providence involved as well, with the coming together of skilled, available labor, an easily-managed government and a port.
However, the biggest thanks/congratulations of all go to our foreign debt masters for the $500,000,000 dollars subsidizing Fisker. Thanks, China!
Jack Markell for President 2016!
AMEN, UI!
David makes me regret omission of my last bullet point.
– Suck on that Republicans!

If Jason had written the post that would have been the title.
Oh, and here’s what Fisker said about Markell. From Ginger Gibson’s article:
“The governor pulled together faster than I can take my family of four people to dinner,” Fisker said. “The commitment from Delaware has been amazing.”
Think they could’ve gotten Bill Lee off his barstool long enough to consummate this deal?
Plug in hybrid? I give it two years before they figure out your boss won’t let you plug it in at work. The car looks kinda cool, though, like an Aston Martin Vantage went home drunk with a 1968 Cougar. (Gratuitous cougar=older woman joke there!)
