Stay Classy Governator!

Filed in National by on October 28, 2009

This is both brilliant and shocking.

From Gawker:

Yes, this a real letter from the Governor of California to the General Assembly of his state, telling the Assembly that he is vetoing a bill financing the Port of San Francisco. As you can see, it spells out “Fuck You” from the first letters of each sentence on the left margin. Of course, it would appear to be in response to the sponsor of the bill, who apparently told the Governor to “kiss his gay ass.” Still, it seems the Governor should rise above petty animus and not let that affect his professional duties or his state. But since Ahnold is pissed, the Port of San Francisco gets no funding. Nice job, Governor.

  1. Steve Newton says:

Does anybody remember an old rock group from the 1970s named April Wine?

They had a song titled (you have to say this to get it) “If you see Kay (tell her I love her)”

In all seriousness, DD I have seen little evidence that anybody on any side of the aisle these days is rising above petty animus [and I examined that phrase for several minutes to make you had included no “anus” sight gags]….

  2. Delaware Dem says:

I understand there is no civility, Steve. I am not saying that. Indeed, it looks like a Democratic assemblyman started this fight. But does the Governor have to strip all funding from the Port of San Francisco because of a stupid fight? Are you really going to defend the Governor here? WOW.

  3. nemski says:

Arnold is just a Hollywood whore.

  4. RSmitty says:

What do Grayson and nemski have in common?

    D’oh! 😉

  5. nemski says:

RSmitty is a comment whore. 😉

  6. Steve Newton says:

No, I’m not defending the Governor at all. To be honest I don’t know enough about the funding issue there to have an opinion.

I really just wanted an excuse to get in the old song title, and to admit that if he’d sent me that letter I would never have known I’d been insulted.

  7. Brooke says:

It’s uncivil, and they should finance the port.
But honestly, my main reaction is a) Wow. Arnie thought that up? First thing I ever understood about why Maria married him. and b) Someone noticed? Because honestly, its quite possible that every letter i’ve gotten in the last 30 years spells out something in the margin, but I’ve never noticed. Maybe i should go check.

As you can see, I’m all puns and silliness, today. Sorry.

  8. anon says:

    Sounds like a hoax.

  9. anon says:

Well I’m wrong, Arnold’s people confirm they sent the letter and say it just a “weird coincidence.”

I give Arnold an A for style, F for content.

  10. Progressive Mom says:

If someone on Arnie’s staff came up with this blockbuster, they need more work.

But never mind the “fu”; what about “kicks the can down the alley”. WTF does that even mean? I remember a kids game from the early 1960’s called “kick the can” but this use doesn’t resonate at all.

If they needed a “k” word, they could have used … the legislature just kills all good ideas.

Kicks the can down the alley? Must be a girlie man.

  11. a. price says:

pm, I’ve heard Obama use that phrase in regard to all the things we need to fix that keep getting put off, the buck passed, the chicken doesn’t get fucked, whatever.
I think this is as hilarious as Yid Vicious (Rham) sending a dead fish to a political opponent. Far as i know, we (at least me) on the left embrace OUR foul mouthed cut throat, lets give Arnold props where props are due.

He SHOULD finance the port.. for that he is a bastard…. but a witty bastard. I hope the letter was his idea.

  12. Delaware Dem says:

Yeah, A Price. I don’t care about the letter. In fact, it is pretty brilliant. But to let that interfere with his duties, that’s childish.

  13. Nosy says:

Isn’t the state of California bankrupt?

  14. D.C. says:

“Still, it seems the Governor should rise above petty animus and not let that affect his professional duties”

Sort of like Obama and Fox News?

  15. Scott P says:

D.C. — All the WH did was point out a clearly demonstrable fact.

Nosy — Do you mean financially, ideologically, or morally?

  16. anonone says:

Guess what? I think it was clever.
    Only from a repub, right?

They must be chuckling in Sacramento.
    Or even in LA.

However, I think that there is only one message here.
    Even if you’re a republican.
    Laughter is a good thing.
    Life needs more of it.

  17. Delaware Dem says:

    Very good, Anonone.

  18. Rebecca says:

Back in the days when people still sent telegrams my favorite was always “F–k You! Strong letter to follow.” Hah!

  19. nemski says:

    Telegrams, Rebecca? 😉

  20. Scott P says:

Yes, Nemski, I think that’s how people text-messaged back in black-and-white days. I’ve seen them in cartoons.

  21. cassandra_m says:

    Telegrams = the OG IM.

  22. Actually, this is not quite right.

If one looks at the entire letter after the salutation, it reads “I Fuck You”.

  23. Yeah! It is about time he stood up to wasteful spending. Democrats get upset when you tell the truth. It is a shame you have to be creative to get that message out. Mine is YDH?

  24. Geezer says:

Oh, put a sock in it, David. Who cares about the background? I think it’s funny as hell.

  25. cassandra_m says:

It is funny, but how desperate can a republican be to cheer for the unfunding of major Port. A port where American businesses rely on the regular import and export of goods.

Celebrating the defunding a major piece of commerce is pretty darned short-sighted and not exactly business friendly.

  26. There is no money. The Democrats wasted it a long time ago. It is pork barrel spending. Long Beach already has the capability.

  27. cassandra_m says:

And the Party Ignorant of Business has spoken.

  28. Rebecca says:

Yes nemski, I remember telegrams and 78-RPM phonograph records. Can you imagine the awe I feel every morning when I fire up my PC and the whole world is there for me to see. And I can come here and comment and share with this community. What amazing times we live in.

The gubernators office says it was a coincidence – so at least we know the letter was real. Though…accidential? hmm…
