Another Member Of The GOP Braintrust Speaks
The second stupidest woman in Congress (after Michele Bachmann) is Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC). She gave a speech on the floor of Congress saying that health care reform is scarier than terrorism.
She was at it again today on the House floor, arguing that health reform is a greater threat to our country than “any terrorist right now in any country”:
Everywhere I go in my district, people tell me they are frightened. … I share that fear, and I believe they should be fearful. And I believe the greatest fear that we all should have to our freedom comes from this room — this very room — and what may happen later this week in terms of a tax increase bill masquerading as a health care bill. I believe we have more to fear from the potential of that bill passing than we do from any terrorist right now in any country.
She may be right. The threat of terrorism right now is fairly low right now.
But then again, so what? Why is that even relevant?
Nothing we undertake is free of risk, and if we’re currently losing 44,000 people every year for lack of health insurance, that are rather obvious risks of doing nothing.
First, if she is so fearful of serving in the House, she should resign. Second, the House needs to change it’s rules and stop these one minute asinine “speeches” from all members. It’s a waste of time and money. Think of what could get done if MOC’s actually did some work instead of making stupid comments for the folks back home to watch on the 6:00 news.
Gibbs Says He Doesn’t Know if White House Has Reviewed Constitutionality of Forcing People to Buy Health Insurance
Monday, November 02, 2009 By Fred Lucas, Staff Writer (CNSNews.com) –
White House Spokesman Robert Gibbs said today that he does not know if White House lawyers have reviewed whether it is constitutional for the federal government to order individuals to buy health insurance and said that the White House is not seriously considering the concerns of people such as Sen. Orrin Hatch (R.-Utah) who believe the mandate is not constitutionally justified.
