Coca Cola has joined forces with, wait for it, the American Academy of Family Physicians to provide unbiased advice on the use of sugary soft drinks in a well-balanced diet.
According to the Associated Press, in exchange for the six-figure bribe, Coke will ‘…provide education built on sound science‘, according to Coke spokeswoman Diana Garza Chialante. Didn’t the tobacco industry do something like that?
Here’s my favorite quote: “The idea is “to develop educational materials to help consumers make informed decisions so they can include the products they love in a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle,” the academy’s president-elect, Dr. Lori Heim, said at the time.
Personally, I love poison. Or would if it was available at Trader Joe’s. Especially when coated with dark chocolate like everything else there. I just wish that the Poison Industry had Coke’s foresight to fight the unfair rap that poison has gotten in the medical and nutritional communities. Taken in moderation, like Coke or congealed cheesesteak grease, it likely won’t even kill you, claims from so-called scientists and nutritionists notwithstanding.
Other corporate contributors to the Academy include the drug companies, McDonald’s, Pepsico, and the beef industry. Just remember that the next time you go to www.FamilyDoctor.org.
