Breaking: Shooters On Loose In Ft. Hood, TX
At least seven people are dead and 12 wounded in a shooting at Fort Hood in Texas, the base’s public affairs office told NBC News on Thursday.
The official would not give his name nor additional details. It was unknown whether victims are soldiers or civilians. One gunman was reportedly in custody and another was on the loose, NBC News said. A third shooter may be involved, according to NBC News affiliate KCEN, which said the person had opened fire on the SWAT team at the base.
This is all the information that is available right now.

According to the AP, 7 are dead and 20 are wounded. Also, it’s being reported (no link yet) that all victims and shooters are military members and that the shooters were in uniform. One is reported to be in custody and one still on the loose.
Don’t worry, tea baggers. We won’t use this incident to take your guns, even if it turns out that one of you did this.

Soldiers Killed and 31 Wounded in Fort Hood Shooting
Suspected Gunman Is Identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan
Link noted, and appreciated. Thank you, lizard.
Can’t be a teabagger, they don’t allow his kind.
My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the fallen soldiers.
The posters at Jihad Watch and other such sites are already citing it as evidence of terrorism, but they’re ignoring the significant item of his rank. He’s not some new recruit; you don’t get to be a major overnight. Of course, the paranoid probably regard this as the fruition of a 15-year nefarious plan.
According to the AP, the dead gunman has been identified as Major Nidal Malik Hasan.
I think the shooting must be over now. I’m hearing reports 12 dead, 31 wounded. The reports are that the shooter is an army psychiatrist.
sounds like good news for the Right. more excuse to hate brown people.
Yeah, this is curious. When you see that three individuals are involved, with one them having a Arabic sounding name, you immediately think it is terrorism. But then again, that individual is a Army Major, and he could be African American and not Arabic.
So it is best not to jump to conclusions until we know more.
A. Price, they never needed an excuse to hate everyone but themselves for decades now.
Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson just said that Major Hasan was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq and was upset about that. I don’t know her source of information, but she is a Senator and presumably in the know.
Hutchinson says she has heard that Major Hasan is from Jordan, but that is not confirmed. He did have a Medical Degree.
Via an interview with Shepard Smith…
… his cousin, Nader Hasan, said the shooter was born in the USA and was always a Muslim.
The two other suspects have been released. So this seems to be the work of an angry lone gunman. His motive would seem to be anger at being deployed to Iraq. The question is why was he angry? Did he not want to be deployed because he was sympathetic to Al Queda? Just because he is Muslim means nothing, unless you are bigoted enough to believe that all Muslims are evil terrorists.
7:31 PM ET — NBC News: Another shooting victim has died. The victim was identified as a female by MSNBC.
7:02 PM ET — AP Newsbreak: “AP source: Suspected Fort Hood shooter got poor performance evaluation for Army hospital work.”
6:41 PM ET — Congressman: Other soldiers detained have been released. “The two suspects arrested shortly after the shooting have been released,” the Austin American-Statesman reports, citing the office of Rep. John Carter, whose district includes Fort Hood.

Prayers sent. What a waste. đ
This wouldn’t have happened if soldiers were allowed to open carry and God hadn’t been banned.
“Just because he is Muslim means nothing, unless you are bigoted enough to believe that all Muslims are evil terrorists.
“He was making outlandish comments condemning our foreign policy and claimed Muslims had the right to rise up and attack Americans,” Col Lee told Fox News.

Of course, not all Muslims, but this particular one should be of concern. At any rate, it appears that, because he’s alive, they will be able to ask him personally.
“… But then again, that individual is a Army Major, and he could be African American and not Arabic.

Indeed. We wouldn’t want to make a racist statement, like the one above.
How was that racist, Miscreant? I was advising against prejudging by saying he could be an African American, since my future cousin in law has the name Hasan and he is African American.
Simple. While,I got that you were advising against prejudgment, and I appreciate your personal experience and perspective, blacks and mid-eastern people (not all Muslims) aren’t the only ones with the surname, Hasan. It could also be a Hebrew surname. You assigned the name to a specific race. It doesn’t escape me that, if a conservative had made that statement, you’d be on them, well… like white on rice.
hahahahahahaha..best line of the conversation…Comment by Delaware Dem on 5 November 2009 at 6:19 pm: “So it is best not to jump to conclusions until we know more.”
dont worry deldem, your president wont stop sending innocent people to be killed in Afghanistan.
Just for update purposes, here’s the latest:
Another person died overnight, bringing the death toll to 13.
The shooter is still alive apparently, and in the hospital.
Hasan was troubled, and had trouble with patients.
He shouted “allahu akbar” before the shootings. He was about to be deployed to Iraq, but didn’t want to go.
Just think of how many lives would be saved and how many suicides would be prevented if the just didn’t issue guns on our military bases.
Why do they have guns there?

Nope. He gets a gold medal in the conclusion jump event here:
“Donât worry, tea baggers. We wonât use this incident to take your guns, even if it turns out that one of you did this.”
God is Great!
@Miscreant
So.. Is he a teabagger? Look who is jumping to conclusions now.
He certainly fits one of the major profiles (religious nutcase).
@Liberal Effete (intentional)
Apparently you have some reading comprehension and intellectual issues, LE. The “teabagger” comment wasn’t mine, and look who just made an amateur attempt at ‘profiling’ someone.
Liberal Elite – the weapon used was not miliary issued. According to report I heard on NPR this morning the soldiers on base don’t carry weapons unless they’re MP.

Fort Hood shootings: FBI given gunman’s name six months ago The US Army major who killed 13 people in a shooting spree at America’s biggest military base had come to the attention of the FBI six months earlier over possible links to extremist comments posted on the internet.
By Gordon Rayner and Nick Allen in Fort Hood, Texas Published: 9:59PM GMT 06 Nov 2009
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, a devout Muslim who was trying to buy his way out of the Army, was suspected of being the author of postings which compared suicide bombers to heroic soldiers who throw themselves onto grenades to save others.
It also emerged that Hasan, 39, had described the US Army as “the aggressor” in Iraq and Afghanistan and was resisting a planned deployment to Afghanistan, raising questions over whether the military missed warning signs which might have prevented the massacre.
Witnesses said Hasan shouted “Allahu akbar”, Arabic for God is great, as he opened fire â a phrase commonly used by Islamic militant suicide bombers â though investigators said there was no evidence he had been recruited by al-Qaeda or other Islamic extremist organisations.
@Miscreant “Apparently you have some reading comprehension and intellectual issues, LE. The âteabaggerâ comment wasnât mine…”
But YOU were the one who said he deserved a gold medal, and that assessment required exactly such a jump. Thus, it is not my reading comprehension that is called into question, but your skills at basic logic. Modus tollendo tollens.
I love comments that send me scurrying to wikipedia.
“I love comments that send me scurrying to wikipedia.”
Undoubtedly, you (and Liberal Elite) spend a lot of time there.
@Miscreant
Hardly… I was playing WFF ‘N PROOF before I even got to high school. I can guess what you were playing with…
Fort Hood Shooting Suspect Awake, Talking
\
Wall Street Joural ^ | November 9, 2009 | Staff
FORT HOOD, Texas â A U.S. Army hospital spokesman said the man suspected in a deadly shooting spree at Fort Hood is conscious and able to talk. Dewey Mitchell, a spokesman at Brooke Army Medical Center, said Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan remains in stable condition. Mr. Mitchell said Maj. Hasan has been awake and able to talk since he was taken off a ventilator Saturday. Maj. Hasan is at Brooke Medical Center in San Antonio, about 150 miles southwest of Fort Hood. Authorities say the 39-year-old Maj. Hasan opened fire at a processing center Thursday at Fort Hood, the country’s…
