And one more point re: BoehnerCare — what happened to the argument that we shouldn’t rush this? Boehner presents an alternative that has had no hearings, no committee markups, and NO BIPARTISANSHIP in just a few weeks to come up with something that doesn’t cover many people and doesn’t save as much money as the Dem bill that covers something like 12 times more people. You can see BoehnerCare as what happens when you do rush the big important stuff — it turns out to be grossly inadequate.

Below is a link to the Washington Post story about the only Republican to vote for the Health Care reform bill,Freshman Rep. Joseph “Ahn” Cao (R-La.), who I had never heard of before today. He represents a heavily Democratic district and it sounds like his vote appears to be a case of doing good work while also finding it politically to be in his enlightened self-interest.

Here is his bio page from, his US House site. He lost home & business in Katrina,so he can truly say he has felt his constituents’ pain.

I don’t think Ahn Cao stands a chance in the next election but he would even have less than a chance if he had voted against health care reform.
Thanks for that! Rep. Cao didn’t get much attention from the GOP when he ran largely because he was running in such an impossible district. This year, Jefferson is working to keep his butt out of prison and the impossible district won’t have Jefferson to toss out. Cao is pretty shrewdly deciding that total wingnuttery won’t get him elected here.
Wasn’t Cao one of the guys on the front page of Delaware Politics?

He was at one point, yes.
