To the Bitter End.

Now that the Senate Democrats have demonstrated that they have the votes to pass healthcare reform, you would think the GOP would just give up their “NO!!!!!!!” obstruction strategy and allow the vote to take place so that all Senators and their staffs could enjoy the holidays with their families.

And I was shocked to see this morning that, snOMG, they actually held a meeting to consider being human beings rather than vile creatures of the underworld.

Senate Republicans are considering whether to throw in the towel in their efforts to stall Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nev.) health care reform bill, a move that could mean the Senate completes work on the bill before Christmas Eve.

I should have known better.

Senate Republicans say they are sticking to their guns and will continue to drag out passage of the Democrats’ health care reform legislation, forcing the chamber to remain in session through Christmas Eve.

During a luncheon of the GOP Conference Monday, Republicans discussed whether to drop their filibuster or find some other way to allow lawmakers to break camp before 7 p.m. Thursday, when the Senate is scheduled to cast a final vote on the health care bill.

But while some Members had expressed interest in getting out of Washington earlier than expected, the Conference still plans to stick it out to the bitter end.

Why the GOP thinks Scrooge is the perfect role model I will never know. Perhaps Mitch McConnell needs a visit from three ghosts.
