Get ready everyone for Kookapocalypse Now! Well, OK, not now. Actually, April 7. That’s when former Governor, former VP candidate, and current Queen of the Tea Baggers Sarah Palin will host a fundraiserfor Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann. Yup. That’s right. Palin and Bachmann will be together in the same room. Physicists at CERN are concerned that the extreme concentration of what they refer to as “Batsh!t Crazy” (their words, not mine) in one place could cause irreparable damage to the space-time continuum. On the other hand, it’s possible I made that last part up.
The rest of it, however, is frighteningly, but fascinatingly, true. As a matter of fact, not only can you attend the dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Minneapolis for the low price of only $500 (or $5000 for a table of ten), you can also have a “Private Reception with Photo Opportunity”. This would take place in the Champagne Room at the same event and could be yours for only $10,000. In all fairness, the $10,000 price is for a couple, and does include the dinner. So you got that goin’ for you.
If you don’t have $10k laying around to blow on a snapshot, you can visit this site hosted by Tarryl Clark, Bachmann’s Democratic opponent. At the cleverly-named mytengrandphoto.com, you can create your own picture with Bachmann, Palin, or both. This way, you can have your own budget-conscious way to commemorate the Kookapocalypse. (Also, I dare you to say “Kookapocalypse” out loud without smiling.)

That is worth paying for! “That’s right. Palin and Bachmann will be together in the same room.” Talk about a conservative fantasy come true. According to every poll that I have seen including PPP, Bachman’s very favorables are so high in that district that no Democrat has a chance unless the Good Lord came back as one and ran as one.
The only way I’D pay ten grand is if it involved complete nudity, a double-dong dildo,hot lesbo sex and my exclusive rights to film and market the product.I know those TEABAGGERS would lap it up.Normal people might out of curiosity.Anyway,I’d give all the money to freeclinics.com who will still be needed for years to come,even after all of the provisions of health-care kick in.

I shudder to think of what each will say in an attempt to out-do each other for the title of Tea Party Queen.
I find the level of sexism in skippertree’s comment quite shocking, and the fact that none of the “good liberals” who identify themselves as “feminists” have raised any objection to it. After all, it clearly is a case of sexually objectifying women in a way that one would never sexually objectify men — for example, would anyone here suggest that one would attend a Barney Frank/Alan Grayson event only if it involved a sexual performance by the two men that also included Keith Olbermann (just to draw a parallel and include Mark H’s equally vile and sexist comment)?
I didn’t think so — which is indicative of the implicit sexism at work in the left-wing contempt for Palin and Bachmann.
Contempt for Palin and Bachmanis boundless (outside of the 20% of America who are the nutbags regarded as he Republican base). Within that 20% – I’d say skippertee has a good business plan.

I agree that’s probably at work, at least in some cases, just as I think it has a lot to do with their favorability ratings.
But beyond both of them being reasonably attractive women, they also have in common poor educations, an inability to articulate clearly (did Bachmann really mean to say this week that 100 percent of the American economy was private-sector before 2008?) and a frustrating inability to actually process and respond to arguments made by their opponents.
That last used to be a minimum requirement for being taken seriously in political discourse. It has been dispensed with ever since Reagan, mainly because Ronnie was incapable of debating on his feet, without prep. So your party has degenerated from a group of people who wouldn’t debate into one that can’t.

Yeah, Mark, but Palin and Bachmann are a couple of serious national political leaders, not actresses marketing their sexuality. That’s why I suggested Frank and Grayson (I considered Bart Stupak and Harry Reid) in my counter-scenario, not a couple of hunky actors.
But then again, some of you point out that this is happening because Palin and Bachmann are attractive women. Are you therefore agreeing with the tongue-in-cheek assertion made by some on the Right that liberalism is for ugly women?

There aren’t many people who would agree with this. Both are basically in this business to nurture their celebrity. Even the polling that asks who thinks the Quitta from Wassilla should be president never gets much beyond 30% or so.
But Liberalism is for women who are interested in accomplishing something that actually furthers that liberalism. We leave the business of using looks as a marker for “national leadership” to the much shallower conservatives.

I think attacks on women politicians based on their looks is wrong and inappropriate. Palin and Bachmann have plenty of other issues that they’re wrong about to criticize. One big issue for me is how Palin in particular use their looks to get ahead. That hurts all women. What do you think all the winking was about when Palin was debating?
