    The truth is that we can’t afford the current retirees let alone the coming retirement of the Boomers (like me). These people paid in pennies (my first check had a Social Security deduction of $1!) and are now taking out large amounts.HCR was only the start of what we need to do.

    And add to that some receiving now, never paid into the program (now don’t beat me up, just telling it like it is), because the rules then, and culturally approved, wives didn’t work, so funds were not expected to be separate earnings, yet equal access. That rule has since been amended.

    I just don’t get how little the retirement age for collecting hasn’t moved, yet quality of life has. Many can count on collecting for a period likely near the time they spent at their longest place of employment. That’s a benefit age we need to really look at, fairly, for this thing to ever sustain my intended venture into a centurian birthday:).

    Don’t worry. Delaware has the Jar Jar Binks of Insurance Commissioners to makes sure it all works out.
