A Woman’s Place Is In The House (of Representatives)
This is from an actual newsletter sent from the Republican party in Ohio. It’s referencing the OH-13 House race, where the incumbent is Betty Sutton.
I know I keep seeing polls that show Democrats are in trouble in November. Sometimes, though, I have a hard time taking it seriously – specific Republicans are a lot more insane than the generic Republican.
Sometimes I can’t help but think that they don’t want anyone but old, white men to vote for them. It’s like somewhere there’s a conservative strategy room where they sit around saying, “OK, who have we not offended lately? We’ve been tough on immigration, so that should keep the Mexicans away. Check. We mock gays and global warming, so that’ll keep the kids off our lawn. Check. Steele is doing a great job ridding us of the coloreds. Check. Let’s see, now. Oh, I know! Chicks! Somebody take a letter…”
I think that they don’t realize how offensive they really are. I’ll bet if you ask them, they won’t think that they’re sexist. They’ll thinks it’s funny or edgy or something.
I think the GOP is so confident that they’re going to win that they aren’t even hiding what they really think. The GOP’s problem is that the GOP surge is not from GOP love but rather from the economic downturn and the successful GOP use of the media. People aren’t really paying a lot of attention right now. I think when Sept. comes around people are going to pay attention and might not like what they see (especially if some ultraright candidates are nominated).
Scott, I also thinks it’s a self-reinforcing spiral. They push out people who think different then they have less people telling them to think different…
But isn’t the kitchen IN the House?
