Welcome to Friday on the last day of April. Can you believe it’s almost May already? It feels like this year is passing really fast. We had a great turnout at Drinking Liberally last night. I hope you all had fun and we’ll see you again at the next one. Why don’t we open up this thread?
Sue Lowden can not make the Chicken Care gaffe go away. She did an interview with a local reporter and still could not come up with a good answer.
She’s become a national joke, and now her Republican rivals are pouncing. Daily Kos also polled the Nevada Senate race and specifically asked about Lowden’s chicken bartering plan. It had the support of 14% of Nevada voters (5% of Democrats, 27% of Republicans and 7% of Independents). Amazingly, 23% of Republicans said Lowden’s barter plan made them more likely to vote for her (with 28% saying it made them less likely to vote for her).
Florida is having trouble outlawing sex with animals.
But, as Barbara Hijek notes, Florida has had difficulty getting the law passed:
The law was passed unanimously by the Senate this week. It would make it a first-degree misdemeanor to have sex with an animal, with a penalty of up to a year in jail.
The Senate had passed a similar bill last year, but it fizzled out before it came before the House. The House bill has a similar measure, but it awaits debate.
What is there to debate?
So, just to recap what you can and can’t do in Florida: Get married if you’re gay? Illegal. Adopt a child if you’re gay? Illegal. Marry your cousin? Legal. Have sex with an animal? Also legal.

Perhaps some kind of insurance plan can be devised so at each doctor’s visit there would be a low co-pay of say, ten chicken nuggets.
Arizona has recently passed a new law to ban payment for medical services using ostriches, emus, llamas, or other foreign livestock. Only American chickens, American buffaloes, and bald eagles are accepted for payment in Arizona.

Between 2000 and 2008 the illegal population of Arizona grew from 330,000 to 560,000.
In 2008 the state began to take up the matter of illegals itself and passed some laws to combat the problem. After one year their number dropped 18% while the national decrease was 7 percent, proving state enforcement efforts work to improve..
Based on arrest records, twenty two percent of Maricopa County’s felonious crimes are committed by illegal aliens, more than twice their estimated population within the county.
Although illegal aliens make up an estimated 8% of Arizona’s population, 11% of state prison inmates are illegals.
Approximately 17 percent of arrestees apprehended by the Boarder Patrol in its Tucson Sector have criminal records.
The most recent measurements say 12 percent of all workers in Arizona are illegal aliens.
Illegal aliens in Arizona comprise 20% of those living in poverty, 33% of the medically uninsured and 18% of school children.
One third of all illegal alien households in Arizona are supported by some sort of welfare program and 50% of children in an illegal alien household are receiving some kind of taxpayer benefit.
The new Arizona illegal alien control law is supported by 70 percent of voters according to a new Rasmussen poll.
What’s in the law?
The new law mirrors federal law which requires aliens to register and carry their documents (8 USC 1304(e) and 8 USC 1306(a)). Arizona has only stated that it now considers a violation of these provisions within its boarders to henceforth be a violation of state laws.
Because of the way its language was constructed, the law does not conflict with federal laws, rather it merely supports federal laws…
If only the media could be leftist for one day. Sigh*….On second thought the country’s emergency rooms could not cope with the rush of wingnut stroke victims.
