Shameless Self-Promotion: Concert Edition

Filed in National by on May 6, 2010

Now that I’ve ‘outed’ myself on the Internets, I can let you know that, in another life, I’m a volunteer concert promoter/producer for the Arden Concert Gild. We have two shows coming up this month, one of which I’m producing. I’d love for DL readers to come to one or both and, as an incentive, anyone who mentions DL while making reservations or buying tickets at the door, will get the Arden Club member price instead of the general public price.

In perverse Arden-style, fellow producer Ron Ozer has booked Jill Sobule…for Mother’s Day! That’s funny and ironic on several levels…as is Jill. Here’s a taste:

Jill Sobule-A Happy Song About Global Warming

El Somnambulo him myself has booked killer jazz and blues singer Catherine ‘Cat’ Russell for Saturday, May 22. She’s just released her new album “Inside This Heart of Mine”, and the critics can’t stop raving:

“A masterful singer who knows how to inject her personality into the heart of a great song.” Nick Christiano, Philadelphia Inquirer

“The singer’s gutsy blues croon–one of the best this side of Bessie Smith–could melt the ice in a bourbon on the rocks.” Tristram Lozaw, Boston Globe

“…a wonderfully charismatic performer with a show-stopping voice and an unabashedly old-fashioned repertoire.” Mike Joyce, Washington Post

Don’t take their word for it. Here is Cat singing about food–or could it be– something else??:

Catherine ‘Cat’ Russell-Kitchen Man

If either of these shows ‘hit the spot’ for you like Kitchen Man’s ‘jelly roll’, check out ticket info here.

Now back to your favorite political blog, always and already in progress!

Thanks for the plug Sombrerisimo, hat monster!

Jill’s a perfect fit for Mother’s Day, a celebration of the powerful women in our lives – like Jill!
