Late Night Video: RIP Ronnie James Dio

The death of heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio was announced today. He was 67 years old. Here is one of my favorite Dio tunes “Holy Diver.”

    My roommate Tom just mentioned this tonight. I said it was weird because I caught about an hour of the VH1 100 Best Rock Songs last night and one segment featured Dio. I hadn’t even heard of him –didn’t recognize his name or the song they played (it was in the top 50). But the man struck me because he was laid back and seemed sincere that he was ‘all about the people and in it for the right reasons”. I said that to Tom and he agreed that Dio was a lot like Ozzie that way. He really cared about the fans.

    Then he wondered if they showed the 100 Best of last night knowing that Dio was close to the end. huh. God Speed.

    After the first 10 seconds of vocals, I went, that’s the singer from Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. Definitely a unique voice and very fitting to the bands he chose. R.I.P.
