So..okay, yeah…I get it… Part 1 – The Republicans
I’m back to blogging a little bit I guess. I’ve got my Obama REVEAL theory and my little podcast with Donviti. I’ve got a call out to Tom Kovach, maybe he’ll call me back – maybe not. Whatever.
But the thing I’ve got most of all…the thing that matters…is that I’ve got this clear sense that it is not worth one gray nostril hair to worry about Republicans. My time away, listening to nothing but Jim Croce records and sports talk radio taught me something. It taught me that Republicans don’t matter in the scheme of things.
While it is true that they are in their death throes and using their ownership of the mass media to make a shit load of noise in an attempt to not go quietly into the good night – they honestly don’t matter. Demographics and their built in sense that nothing can ever change has turned them into a bunch of Chinese clay soldiers awaiting burial.
Nobody outside of the bubble of “people who are into politics” knows or cares about stuff that they spend every minute being vexed to the point of muscle cramps about. Immigration? The nation has a vague sense that illegal immigration is wrong int he same way they have a vague sense that illegal “____” (fill in the blank) is wrong. (You see, the tip off is that illegal is in the title.) The national debt? Don’t make me laugh. Most American human beings love debt and they’d swoon to have more debt if it meant putting a decent jobs program in place. [Note to Dave Andersen: War is a crappy jobs program.] Speaking of Andersen, allow your self to consider the fact that the most active and vital Republican blog in Delaware is presided over by a bunch of people who could not think their way down an escalator during a power outage, and know that Republicanism is dead.
But it isn’t just that America is not tracking on stuff that Republicans regard as important that makes them irrelevant. It is that America is bored with the act. They’ve played it out. By being forced into more and more outlandish and absurd positions, Republicans have basically said – “America, we are manipulating you.” Read the Texas GOP platform for a preview of the RNC 2012 talking points. Like the parrot of yore – they have expired. They have joined the choir eternal.
The only little slim ray of light, the only little hope they have left is that they get to run against Democrats.
The problem with people not paying attention – they vote for the loons and we get even worse policies.
Clown car
Rep. Sue Myrick (R-NC) wrote a letter to Janet Napolitano begging her to do something about the Hezbollah/Mexican drug cartel partnership.
Rep. Louis Gohmert worries about terrorist babies.
Another one from the car:
“Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer said Friday most illegal immigrants entering Arizona are being used to transport drugs across the border, an assertion that critics painted as exaggerated and racist.”
Ya think?
Keep repeating that, right up until November.
Speaking of people who aren’t paying attention…
“death throws” >> “death throes”
apt, though i predict more of a bumpy death slither. (then rebirth decades later.. ebb & flow, the cycle of politics/entertainment)
but i’d never heard the phrase, “join[ed] [the] choir eternal”
Thanks for the catch.

I don’t guess you ever considered that there aren’t as many Republican blogs because, I don’t know, maybe they’re too busy working to kvetch about shit that will never change?
There’s a handful of right-wing blogs spewing mostly intolerant religious/racist bullshit. That’s nothing compared to the thousands left-wing blogs with a million contributors and posters whining incessantly about how hideously awful America is and how every citizen should hand over every bloody cent they make to support the poor, pathetic masses who won’t fend for themselves. Lest we forget the criminals! Let’s make sure they’re handled gently so as not to physically or psychologically harm them in any way. Whatever. It doesn’t make a bit of difference. You’re all wasting your time. You’re not changing the world, except maybe to make it a bit more hostile. You’re certainly not changing any minds. Your hypocrisy is galling. Did any of you ever stop for a second to consider how incredibly intolerant you are of the people you claim are intolerant (when, in actuality, they just have a differing opinion)?
Jesus. I would encourage those of you who are hitting refresh every minute just waiting for the opportunity to pounce on someone who doesn’t follow or agree with your twisted logic to get off your asses and get back to work. If you’re fortunate enough to not have to work, maybe your time would be better spent volunteering with an organization that helps the criminals and the poor illegal immigrants you’re so fond of. They’d probably rather you did that than sit around pontificating about the injustice of it all.
PS – I was right; Obama sucks.
Wow, that’s quite a rant. And what it shows is how you’re as guilty of the sins you’re accusing others.
Your hypocrisy is galling.
The sun coming up every morning is galling to Dominique.
This crap about Democrats not working is class envy. Maybe some of us worked our asses off in school so we could end up in professional jobs where we get paid for our brainpower instead of punching a clock 40 hours. We have extra time now because we put the time in earlier. Class envy, I say.
Is this the same Dominique that blogged at “Down with Absolutes”?
I hope so, I loved her posts.
The people I see whining about how awful the country is are conservatives. They’re the ones who talk about armed insurrection. They also like to tell us how afraid they are.
Obama does suck. But he sucks less than your republickin candidates in most areas, but not by much.
The rest of your comment, Dominique, is simply nonsense. And you know it, but I guess you’re having fun in one of your occasional forays into the viper pit.
UI is right and Dom is just factually wrong. (The ability to be angrily and stridently 100% wrong is a vital conservative skill.) In the world of reality, modern conservatives hate America, unless you are talking about the imaginary Disneyland America that only exists in the conservative hive mind.
As for the rest of the little screed if anyone can make sense out of that, good on ya.
WTF? Anyway…to the point of my post, Republicans don’t matter. So I doubt I’ll ever address a wingnut comment on one of my posts ever again.
You’re all so cute with your labels. I supported Hillary Clinton and was a fundraiser for Jack Markell. I’m hardly a conservative. I’m a classic swing voter. And I’m right.
You know I love me some Pandora, but I’m not guilty of the same sins by any stretch of the imagination. I look at the extremes of either side of the political aisle as being equally obnoxious and equally wrong. It seems that those of you who are most passionate about your political beliefs have a tendency to get so caught up in the rhetoric that you forget the big picture. Spewing venom about the other side as though everything is good vs evil does nothing but worsen an already bad situation. Both sides spend all their time pontificating about how the ills of the world were caused by the other side while neither actually DOES anything to change it (too busy cruising blogs, I suppose.) It’s all a bunch of words. Empty, venomous words. The idiots on Fox News go toe to toe with the idiots on MSNBC. Neither is less evil than the other as both are perpetuating the toxicity that has eroded political discourse in this country to cage-match status. Congratulations to Delaware Liberal for leading the state in that respect.
This is amusing:
“This crap about Democrats not working is class envy. Maybe some of us worked our asses off in school so we could end up in professional jobs where we get paid for our brainpower instead of punching a clock 40 hours. We have extra time now because we put the time in earlier. Class envy, I say.”
Class envy?? WTF are you even talking about? My point was that people who work don’t have time to obsess over blogs all freaking day. Read into it what you want. To me, the fact that there are so many more left-wing blogs than right-wing blogs simply demonstrates that there are more people either not working or slacking off at work on the left than on the right. Look at the comment threads in this blog, HuffPo, DailyKos, etc. People are posting throughout the work week – day and night. If you’re in a position to do that, you’re either not working or doing it on the sly at work (read: not working). How is that class envy? If anyone is bringing the issue of class into the argument it’s you. How incredibly condescending of you to imply that your college degree gives you any more ‘brainpower’ than someone who punches a clock. I have met more well-educated morons in my lifetime than I care to remember.
Welcome back, Jason. I appreciated the irony in your ‘conservative hive mind’ comment. 🙂
Dominique, it has always been fascinating to me the vitriolic way that you berate others and condemn them for being vitriolic. Fascinating.
Since you are not a Republican, and we have a history, I’ll bite.
I said that Republicans have gone off the deep end and are pretty irrelevant now. I mentioned Delawarepolitics as an example of the fact that the most active Republicans in Delaware are nuts and you say that Democrats are all on welfare or stealing money from Republican built companies. Do I have that right? Because if that is your point, it is pretty crazy.
Could you turn down the bile for a second and try to sum up your real grievance? I’m not following. It is probably me. I’m a bit rusty.
jason. You are so wise. 🙂
The only thing that could ever make Republicans relevant, is winning.
That they can’t do. 🙂
“Dominique, it has always been fascinating to me the vitriolic way that you berate others and condemn them for being vitriolic. Fascinating.”
Like I’ve always said, you poor liberal cretins are petrified of women who are brighter and stronger than you.
What’s amusing is that most of us on this blog are well-employed. We work, and Dom and I have had conversations about what constitutes work. If you aren’t 100% writing down something, moving or sitting in a meeting, you are slacking.
Many of us in the real world have a good bit of time in-between things and while waiting for a process to complete. There is also the fact that we can write our posts at any time, and set a time for them to post. Given the lives of many of the bloggers on this site, we make heavy use of it.
But Dom, you are not a crazy right-wing lunatic. Face it, you are usually just a cynic. I suspect that you think it is a virtue.
Kavips, Merci. Keeping the illusion of a viable Republican Party alive is in the best interests of the worst elements of our society so I don’t expect to ever read that the Republican party is irrelevant anywhere but here.
Speaking of the worst elements of our society, part two of these post deals with the execrable Democrats.
It was only a few short years ago when the republickins were claiming Dems could never win again. Until the republikin party is crushed under the boot heel of history, they will always have a chance to win, particularly because there is no shortage of Dems that want to help them.
No shit Sherlock.
Welcome back Jason. Good to see you in great form. If you are going to insult me though, please spell my name right. It helps with the hits. Love you. 🙂
Yea Dom–great to hear from you!!!
You are right LG, I’m a cynic. I don’t think it’s a virtue, I think it’s an inevitability when you spend years buying the bullshit that comes out of the mouths of virtually every politician that ever slithered into the public eye only to get kicked in the teeth with reality. They. Are. All. Self-Serving. Liars. Including Dear Leader. You are wrong, however, about my opinion of working 100% of the time. I’m all for taking a break at work to peruse the blogs, but honestly? Take a look at some of the comment threads on this blog. It’s all day, every day. Talk about the Cheetos brigade. I don’t think people use pseudonyms because they fear getting fired for their opinions. I think they use them because they fear getting fired if their employers ever found out how much time they’re spending on blogs.
You are right as well, A1. I am full of vitriol and tend to condemn and berate people for their vitriol; HOWEVER, my vitriolic, berating condemnation is reserved for those who a) insist that their party is all good while the other party is all evil, when there are good people with good ideas on both sides of the political aisle, b) blindly believe the empty promises of ANY politician, and c) when faced with the obvious fact that said politician is a fraud, a liar, an utter failure, a cheat, a thief, a man-whore, etc, make the lamest excuses for said politician’s failures – even going as far as blaming the other party or justifying it with ‘they did it, too!’ I’m sorry. I just have a very low tolerance for close-minded idiots. They’re beyond contempt.
Seriously, do you guys really think all Republicans are bad and all Dems are good? Really??? It’s such a ridiculous notion that I actually giggled as I typed it. They’re all shit. All of them.
So, let’s recap, shall we? The Dems backed the show pony that is well on his way to making Jimmy Carter look like fucking Thomas Jefferson, but that shithead will likely win a second term because the GOP can’t seem to get their heads out of their collective religious, bigoted ass long enough to nominate anyone outside the same retreads from previous elections. So, we’re fucked. But, really, go ahead and blame the Republicans rather than admit that your heroes are actually just as big a part of the problem because the entire system is fucked and nothing ever changes (remember how you mocked me mercilessly for that one, A1?) It’s just different thieves in charge – still spending too much money, still lining their own pockets, still putting their friends in high places, still fighting unnecessary wars, still too cowardly to make difficult decisions because they’re more concerned with winning the next election than doing the right thing.
xoxo,
Dom
Hi, JC!!! 🙂
Obviously there is a lot of truth in all of that. When you use a shotgun you are bound to hit something. My problem with it is that “they are all shit” and “nothing ever changes” crosses the line into political nihilism. There have been people throughout history much more abused by alleged democracies than we are and they didn’t say “Fuck it.” Self government isn’t supposed to be easy.
Nevertheless, I’m willing to say that the Democratic Party sucks ass. I willing to say that there are some terrible Democrats that are fucking shit up. Is Obama one of them? Maybe, maybe not. But even if Obama turns out to be one of those Democrats, I’m not willing to let that observation stop me from making relative value judgements between the basic goals of the Democratic Party and the basic goals of the Republican Party.
Give me a few years and perhaps all my liberal idealism will be stripped away, and I’ll be a happy realist like you.
There’s no such thing as a happy realist, Jason, we’re bitter(ique). You gave me that nickname and meant it to be snarky, but I wear it with pride. 🙂
Wait…were you being sarcastic? I have long lobbied for a sarcasm font…
BTW, I used to be an idealistic liberal. I was soft-hearted and wanted to help everyone. I would give my belongings to strangers who had less than me (mind you, I was a single mother living in Section 8 housing at the time). My husband’s favorite thing to say to me early in our relationship was ‘You can’t save the world.’ Now I don’t want to save anyone. I think it’s because I know that life and I know that NO ONE is trapped in it. I know that with hard work and determination, anyone can turn their life around. I resent our government for perpetuating the self-pity that causes people to remain complacent and prevents them from succeeding in life.
“the fact that there are so many more left-wing blogs than right-wing blogs”
Is this actually a fact? Has anyone counted?
“I resent our government for perpetuating the self-pity that causes people to remain complacent and prevents them from succeeding in life.”
Blaming the government for this seems as silly as blaming any other outside actor. I didn’t realize government help came with a helping of self-pity.
“Like I’ve always said, you poor liberal cretins are petrified of women who are brighter and stronger than you.”
Except she’s not. She’s just overflowing with anger, and willing to use it on anyone who disagrees with her. I actually agree with her points, but the constant stream of vitriol is fatiguing. Just like your constant stream of smugness and insults. For a few days there you actually said things that were interesting and added to the conversation. I miss those days already.
“There’s no such thing as a happy realist, Jason, we’re bitter.”
Speak for yourself. Some of us are realists but aren’t bitter at all. I’m not even sure you’re a realist so much as a pessimist.
All pessimists think they are realists. It’s part of the disorder.
I would also like to point out that I am willing to give a hand to a deserving Republican. A1 usually berates me for it, but he berates everyone, so that’s fine. For example, this blog has regularly beaten the crap out of bad Democrats like Tom Carper, Thurman Adams, and (sadly he qualifies) John Atkins. I did a post just yesterday about a bill proposed by a Republican (Tom Kovach) and seemingly opposed by Speaker Gilligan.
The point is that you are seeing what you want to see, Dom. If you really want to see single-minded vitriol, take a look at a right-wing blog site. If President Obama walked on water, they’d say that he can’t swim. (stolen joke)
We get it, you were an idealist and exposed yourself to people that took advantage of you. I’m sorry that that ruined your psyche towards humanity. But seriously, I have to hope that you are laughing your ass off when writing some of this schlock, because if you believe it all, I’m not sure how you get out of bed in the morning.
Your like a freakin’ recovering alcoholic turned abolitionist.
You don’t get it, LG. My idealism didn’t die because anyone took advantage of me. My idealism died because I learned first-hand that you are in charge of your own destiny and blaming others – the government, corporations, your upbringing, etc – is nothing but a lame excuse for not having the courage to make sacrifices and do what needs to be done to improve your life.
You also don’t need to point out the sins of right-wing blogs. I think they’re just as full of shit as left-wing blogs. I think that 10% of each party is nuts. Unfortunately, they author the blogs.
FTR, it’s kind of presumptuous of you to label my entire personality based on a few paragraphs on a blog. I’m actually a very happy, optimistic person in every aspect of life outside of politics. I have faced (and overcome) unspeakable adversity and tragedy, but I manage to enjoy my life tremendously. Anyone who knows me can tell you that I can find humor in virtually every situation, I don’t obsess about the past and I have a pretty sunny outlook on the future. I just happen to have a very low tolerance for partisan politics.
Dom: In that case, the label applies only to your political perspective. We all get pessimistic sometimes. That said, ever since Hillary fell behind Obama in the primaries, pessimism seems your only motivation to write. Why not start the “Hillary in ’16” wagon rolling? Or, at this point, the “Hillary in ’12” wagon?
I learned first-hand that you are in charge of your own destiny and blaming others – the government, corporations, your upbringing, etc – is nothing but a lame excuse for not having the courage to make sacrifices and do what needs to be done to improve your life.
Yawn… more vacuous Randism. When it turns out OK it justifies itself, but when it doesn’t turn out OK – “Oh well, I guess you just didn’t try hard enough.”
The whole purpose of a representative democracy is to fairly allocate resources. Sacrificing works better as a team sport.
WOW–I just wanna say ditto and right on to Dom–and see nothing outlandish in her remarks. ANYONE who gleans any further into politics than “who’s our President?” would have to be a tree stump to not notice the severe treatment, and harsh handling of any opposing view. Civil discourse at even entry level stages fast tracks to civil war. I can’t even get into the national scene–the local stuff is enough upset for me–and needs tending to.
