Delaware Liberal

So..okay, yeah…I get it… Part 1 – The Republicans

I’m back to blogging a little bit I guess. I’ve got my Obama REVEAL theory and my little podcast with Donviti. I’ve got a call out to Tom Kovach, maybe he’ll call me back – maybe not. Whatever.

But the thing I’ve got most of all…the thing that matters…is that I’ve got this clear sense that it is not worth one gray nostril hair to worry about Republicans. My time away, listening to nothing but Jim Croce records and sports talk radio taught me something.   It taught me that Republicans don’t matter in the scheme of things.

While it is true that they are in their death throes and using their ownership of the mass media to make a shit load of noise in an attempt to not go quietly into the good night – they honestly don’t matter. Demographics and their built in sense that nothing can ever change has turned them into a bunch of Chinese clay soldiers awaiting burial.

Nobody outside of the bubble of “people who are into politics” knows or cares about stuff that they spend every minute being vexed to the point of muscle cramps about.   Immigration?   The nation has a vague sense that illegal immigration is wrong int he same way they have a vague sense that illegal “____” (fill in the blank) is wrong.  (You see, the tip off is that illegal is in the title.)  The national debt?  Don’t make me laugh.  Most American human beings love debt and they’d swoon to have more debt if it meant putting a decent jobs program in place.  [Note to Dave Andersen: War is a crappy jobs program.]  Speaking of Andersen, allow your self to consider the fact that the most active and vital Republican blog in Delaware is presided over by a bunch of people who could not think their way down an escalator during a power outage, and know that Republicanism is dead.

But it isn’t just that America is not tracking on stuff that Republicans regard as important that makes them irrelevant.   It is that America is bored with the act.  They’ve played it out.  By being forced into more and more outlandish and absurd positions, Republicans have basically said – “America, we are manipulating you.”    Read the Texas GOP platform for a preview of the RNC 2012 talking points.   Like the parrot of yore – they have expired.  They have joined the choir eternal.

The only little slim ray of light, the only little hope they have left is that they get to run against Democrats.
