A Blog Post About Nothing
Remember a few days ago when the FBI caught a ring of Russian spies. I’m sure Fox News was all a twitter over it.
Actually, according to espionage journalist Davie Wise, it was much ado about nothing.
And how many secrets from the White House, the Pentagon or the C.I.A. could a Russian spy living in Yonkers or Montclair, N.J., acquire? Unless some future bombshells are disclosed, it sounds as though the S.V.R. did not get much for its investment.
So after years of hard work on both sides (the Russians and the US), what did was gotten for it. Apparently not much. But as Wise writes, “. . . take heart: cold wars come and go, but Russian spies are here forever.”

The only rational explanation is that the Russians used these people to waste the time of American spy-hunters.
I wonder if they got much more information than they could have gotten by reading blogs and news reports.
Look at the positive side. These *illegals* assimilated into our culture, paid income taxes, and didn’t send most of their paycheck back to Russia.
I think when they got assigned to listen to the jason and donviti podcasts it broke their spirit. They probably turned themselves in.
anon, the only problem with that theory is that you talk about listeners in the plural instead of what we know is singular.
They probably drew straws or played Paper, Rock, Scissors to decide who would listen, and then settled in with a nice liter of vodka.
Even our strong allies have spies here as we have spies in their countries, duh.
