So Delaware joined seven other states in banning the use of cell phones while driving. Finally.

I read that Kent General has launched an awareness campaign to stress the dangers of texting while driving. I wonder if they’re going to educate people with those distracting billboards.

What’s next? A ban on eating ice cream, flossing and playing chess? The bastards.

I can see it now, a ban on rolling up your windows or, GOD FORBID (does not apply to atheists) turning on window washers or your hazard lights. HORRORS!

Why not add ban on changing radio stations and fiddling with your iPod while driving? Lots of numb nuts can’t do that safely either.

How about a ban on bans?

    Yes, BanBans!

  5. nemski says:

Hey BansBans, remember driving is a privilege granted to you by the state, not a right.

Excellent cartoon that cuts directly to the heart of the matter. The nattering nit-wittery and dumbassitude is easier and easier for me to tune out.

  7. Ishmael says:

well they drove all the way to Dover, they got to pass something.

Inatentive Driving is already an offense. If officer Smith saw you weaving about, slowing down, etc she could already pull you over and cite you.

but yeah, we made it illegal-er

Good cartoon, though you’re being a bit generous with Jack’s hair…

  9. The Straight Scoop says:

Yeah, there’s “inattentive driving,” but I’ve heard cops point out that when there’s a new law on the books, about 80% of people out there automatically comply with it. So by passing a cell phone bill, they’ve cut down on the number of people holding a phone while driving. Sounds like a pretty good move to me.

Besides, there’s a difference between someone weaving or causing an accident because of their cell phone and THEN being charged with inattentive driving, and someone getting stopped specifically for violating the handheld cell phone law and NOT causing an accident. Call it preventive medicine or whatever, but if this cuts down on crashes, I’m all for it.

Now, I just need to dig the headset that came with my phone out of the nightstand…

Anyone else remember when they were called “car phones”? How far we’ve come.

  11. anon says:

Apparently, fiddling with stuff in your car magically becomes 100% safe if you are law enforcement.

  12. jason330 says:

    Straight Scoop,

The New York State Study conclusively proves that cell phone bans reduce accidents. It is simply good policy and the morons who are festering about it are just crabby ass complainers who need to be complaining about something.

  13. fightingbluehen says:

I’m curious. Are they saying that cell phone use while driving is inatentive driving, or are they saying that cell phone use while driving is a crime in and of itself, and will they charge you with both offenses, and is that legal for them to do ?
