Mike Castle Supports….Filibuster Reform?
Mike Castle is clearly not worried about Christine O’Donnell’s challenge. He’s been positioning himself to the left lately (perhaps worried about his numbers at <50%). Just this week he voted yes on the new $26B state aid bill which allowed teachers, firefighters, police and other state workers to keep their jobs. Bold guerilla blogger Mike Stark caught up with Mike Castle on Tuesday and asked Castle whether he would support filibuster reform.
Castle is the Republican Senate candidate from Delaware. I asked him if heβd consider joining with other Senators to change the Senate filibuster rules. He said, βI might,β and continued to say that this would be something he may speak about before the election.
I’m quite surprised by this. Filibuster reform is not on many people’s radar right now but clearly Castle is going to position himself as someone who will get things done and perhaps as a power broker (like Scott Brown or Olympia Snowe).

If Republicans really believe they are going to take the majority in the Senate, why wouldn’t they be for weakening the filibuster?
I think even Republicans don’t think they’ll take over the Senate, but you’re right anon that may be what he means by “I’ll consider it.”
No idiots, if the GOP plans on taking the Senate they will do nothing to change the rules. You guys need to be drug tested.
power broker like Scott Brown or Olympia Snowe? these two are not powerbrokers, Snowe is a shill for a poor state who pretends to stand on bi partisanship but is out of her league. Brown, simply wants to get re elected he can’t count the Mass Dems nominating such a loser again.
Dr Wishy Washy is operating again. If anyone thinks Castle will stand up to the Republican leadership on key votes, they are living in fantasyland.
“I Might”. Go fuck you and your I might Castle. You are full of shit.
I would like to present DL with a challenge. I might ask that Delaware Liberal do what Crooks and Liars did by asking it’s readers to support buying a billboard (they cost less than $1000) and why doesn’t DL have a contest for a billboard idea that will slam Mike Castle and his bs record as a moderate.
I DV pledge the first $250 for the billboard contest. I will do the leg work and find the location, negotiate the cost.
Just have a contest for the best billboard and DL and thewageslave get name recognition on it.
I think Coons needs come kind of devastating ad like the one Sestak used on Specter. Not quite sure what that is for Castle yet.
I know what I’d run — his encounter with Crazy Eileen, particularly the part where he tries to talk sense as she launches into the Pledge of Allegiance, then folds up like a cheap tent and joins in. “Mike Castle: He couldn’t stand up to Crazy Eileen, and he can’t stand up to the Republicans in Washington. Chris Coons can.”
entry #1
If I were running Coons’ campaign, I would use a catchy slogan like, “bald is beautiful”. Billboards ,flyers, hand out Chris Coons sunglasses to shield from the glare.
I’m serious.
and that is why you arent in charge of a campaign.
You just don’t recognize political genius a.price…lol
Damn, he could even get miss Delaware to back him. I better shut up before I give the opposition any ideas.
someone had and extra tsp of crazy in their coffee (or tea?) this morning
I agree with Unstable Isotope. With O’Donnell a joke the only remote threat he faces is losing his “moderate” brand. As long as he retains that he will, unfortunately, beat Coons comfortably. The only impact O’Donnell has is she further cements Castle’s “moderate” image. The problem is Castle has been around for decades. It is a very tall order for Coons to convince people to all of sudden vote against Castle. The sad reality is most voters do not pay attention to the regular activities of Congress so they are unaware that Castle almost always votes with the rest of the Republican Party.
Which is where my ad comes in. Democrats and Independents aren’t afraid of Mike Castle, but they’re afraid of Crazy Eileen.
I watched WHYY’s “First’ for the first time this week. Chris Coons was interviewed and at one point was asked if he thought the Senate campaign would veer from the “Delaware Way”. Coons said “No”, that the campaigns had agreed to stay civil, cordial etc. –not that that will stop the Dave Burris-type GOPer Party attacking from the shadows.
By the way: Burris deleted comments by Mike Matthews and myself on the DE Tomorrow – Christine O’ post (that I finally clicked onto) and then he closed the comments. WHAAAAAAAAAA.
I was just concurring with what Mike had said and then stated that I was going to be giving Mike Castle my vote this year. I guess Dave-o hates me so much he can’t even stand to see me say I am going with a GOP for Congress. Mike’s comment could have been construed as a semi-outing of the Wanda Maximoff blogger but you’d have had to really be in on the inside to even get the drift.
Wanda – just so you know, I will never breathe a word!
I think you could go somewhere with the theme that Mike Castle serves Republicans and not Delaware. You could show him with this giant stunt check and all the programs Castle voted against funding. You could also show his deficit hypocrisy by showing how much he’s voted to increase the deficit – like the Bush tax cuts and the GOP’s alternate stimulus plan.
Dave did not delete Mike’s or your comments, Nancy. Your comment that you are voting for Castle is there for all the world to see.
BTW, Mike’s comment can hardly be construed as an “outing.” Mike doesn’t do that stuff.
Nancy –
Mike’s comment.
Your comment.
That comment thread also remains open, so not sure which post you had looked at. I will admit that there was a flurry of posts on that topic and a rather thick amount of comments as well, so I can understand if you had recalled a different post.
Geezer has the best idea. Its a hoot! Cant stand up to the crazies, cant stand up for the people of Delaware. I like a billboard of Castle standing in front of another billboard:
Corporate America stands with Mike Castle.
Nancy’s wrong? Imagine that.
anon – I made a bunch of calls and got a lot of calls – the situation is indeed not what it appeared to be to me (my comment was removed for at least a period of time) but there are bigger fish frying over on that blog, not just on that thread. Most of the thread comments regarding this ‘situation’ have been removed permanently – as RSmitty will admit. More on that later. But for now – love you too anony-nony
