O’Donnell is Going to Win

Filed in National by on September 14, 2010

Most of Eastern Sussex is still out. Most of New Castle County is in. The results have been taken off the screen at Castle HQ, a la McCain 2008. It is over. Christine O’Whackjob looks like she will win. The DE GOP has died. 1854–2010.

Lotta chickens in Delaware. Don’t count them until they hatch.

  3. yeoman says:

What will Castle do? Endorse her? Bitterly oppose her?

  4. Delaware Dem says:

    65% reporting. O’Donnell leading 54-46

  5. M. McKain says:

I thought she’d pull it out, but not with such a majority. Scary state of affairs that so many people could support such a miserably poor candidate. The Republican Party is losing what little respectability it had left. Abe Lincoln just finished rolling over in his grave.

  6. Delaware Dem says:

    75% in. O’Donnell leading 54 to 46.

  7. karmicjay says:

Sorry..naive Q here. Can Castle run as an independent even if he loses? Not sure about DE law on this. Thanks

  8. anonone says:

I am pissed at Castle for running such a poor non-campaign as to let this utterly dishonest airhead this close to a representing Delaware in the Senate. I know that it almost guarantees that the seat stays D in November, but it is the “almost” part of the guarantee that I am worried about. Particularly if Coons takes her as lightly as Castle did. We all ought to be doing GOTV for Coons after this wake-up call.

Oh, and thanks a lot republickins for foisting another empty skirt right-wing extremist candidate on America.

  9. yeoman says:

k – no. Too late to get on the ballot.

  10. Delaware Dem says:

85% in. Same margin. Urkel is holding off Rollins 49.7 to 47

  11. Delaware Dem says:

AP calls it. O’Donnell wins. Thanks for the Senate seat, David Anderson.

  12. Mark H says:

And this is a bit anecdotal, but a lot of people where I work were annoyed at what they thought was piling on by Castle and the GOP. Instead of discussing issues, the GOP chose to highlight the Diploma, the foreclosure, the money problems, etc. That didn’t play very well. With this economy, everyone is having money problems. A candidate having money problems, they can understand. A candidate that wouldn’t even debate their opponent, they didn’t quite get 🙂

  13. Polemical says:

Voters of Delaware are moronic! Because you’re unhappy with a career politician, you vote in a delusional whack-job. She will embarass Delaware. Moreover, The Tea Party Express will likely ‘hijack’ DE again and forever turn the ‘Delaware Way’ of congenial politics into the dirty-trick, machine politics of big cities.

Watch your back Coons; Tea Party Express are in your bushes, checking out what you said / did in the 7th grade and digging up any and all dirt.

  14. Lee Ann says:

Palin Lite, if that even registers on a scale. I swear she had a hint of an Alaskan accent while she was being interviewed on GMA this morning. Let’s hope Mr. Coons goes to Washington, Nemski.

  15. Brooke says:

May I say AGAIN, fundamentalists and stem cells.

    This isn’t random, or unpredictable.

  16. anonone says:

We need to work as if Coons is behind. Overconfidence cost Castle the nomination, we can’t afford to let it cost Coons the general.

  17. Coons has to take the lead on that. Get his butt out everywhere and anywhere. (It’s still in the bag, though.)

  18. anonone says:

    That’s what Castle thought, too.

But remember that the chair of the Delaware GOP said, “She is not a viable candidate for any office, from dog catcher to senator.”

  19. pvogel says:

It still will take a good GOTV and contributions of time and money to put coons in dc.

  20. anon says:

The News Journal can’t comprehend this. Their headline still says COD holds a big lead over Castle. They can’t bring themselves to write the words “CASTLE LOSES.” Boo-hoo…

  21. Von Cracker says:

Friggin’ sweet. The stooopid distillery is in full effect. These TPers will vote for anyone as long as the Palin Book Club tells them what to do.

Now, will Castle get behind Coons?

    Full Statement of Chris Coons
Chris Coons’ Statement on Christine O’Donnell Winning

the Delaware GOP nomination for U.S. Senate

New Castle County Executive Chris Coons, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Delaware, released the following statement Tuesday regarding the results of the Republican primary:

“The results tonight make one thing perfectly clear – the Republican party is purging itself of moderate voices and embracing the radical. I thank Mike Castle for his years of service to the people of Delaware and ask that his supporters embrace my campaign as a way to continue
Delaware’s tradition of electing moderate, independent voices to the United States Senate.”

“Delawareans need a U.S. Senator focused on creating jobs, not promoting bizarre conspiracy theories and an extreme social agenda. Every leading Delaware Republican knows that Christine O’Donnell is way out of the mainstream. I look forward to voters comparing my private and public sector experience of reforming government, creating jobs and fiscal accountability, against Ms. O’Donnell’s out-of-touch and dangerous agenda that would hurt Delaware’s working families.”

  23. Melissa says:

I agree with anonone… The general election ain’t over ’till it’s over, and it’s not over yet.

  24. anon says:

MJ – I think you got the early version, with all the typos. Here’s the real thing:

    Statement of Chris Coons
Chris Coons’ Statement on Christine O’Donnell Winning the Delaware GOP nomination for U.S. Senate

    BWA HA HA HAHAHAHA!!!

Fuck you, Beau and Joe! Sacrificial lamb, my gleaming white divinity-school ass.

Senator Coons. Practice saying it. Senator Coons. Senator Coons. Daaaaaamn, that sounds hot.

Now practice: County Executive Clark. County Executive … wait, never mind. Don’t say that one.

In conclusion: Fuuuuck you, you ball-less Bidens! I totally fucking got this. Senator Coons is going to start rehearsing roll calls tomorrow. Fuck yeah.

I recall another person that Democrats thought would be easy to beat. His name was George Bush.

  28. jason330 says:

I like how Coons takes the facts of O’Donnell’s candidacy head on:

“Delawareans need a U.S. Senator focused on creating jobs, not promoting bizarre conspiracy theories and an extreme social agenda. Every leading Delaware Republican knows that Christine O’Donnell is way out of the mainstream. I look forward to voters comparing my private and public sector experience of reforming government, creating jobs and fiscal accountability, against Ms. O’Donnell’s out-of-touch and dangerous agenda that would hurt Delaware’s working families

    That is a good sign.

  29. anonone says:

I recall another person that Democrats thought would be easy to beat. His name was Chris Christie.

  30. Geezer says:

Jon Corzine had a 39% approval rating. Chris Coons does not have that handicap. And Chris Cristie was AG of the state of New Jersey. Compared with Christine O’Donnell, he’s Winston Churchill.

  31. MJ says:

10:32 PM ET Republican Party Won’t Back O’Donnell

Politico’s Mike Allen writes on Twitter that the NRSC is not going to back O’Donnell even though Castle lost.

  32. anon says:

Coons says… embrace my campaign as a way to continue
Delaware’s tradition of electing moderate, independent voices

Well there goes Coons’s plan to paint Castle as a right-winger based on his votes supporting the Bush agenda and tying Castle to Bush.

  33. Von Cracker says:

    If asked, El S.

Someone at NJ, or some other media hole will ask, I’m sure.

  34. Frank says:

Hell. I got out of Delaware just in time. This makes Virginia look sane, even with Cuccinelli.

  35. a. price says:

ya know, i feel a little bad for Castle. a little.

  36. jason330 says:

I don’t. A guy who campaigned and raised money for Sarah Palin lost an election.

  37. Frank says:

I feel a little bad for Castle too. At least he was sane. As a lefty, I could disagree with him while knowing he was playing in the same ballpark I was in. When push came to shove, he didn’t have the courage to stand up for being moderate.

    Crazy beats wishy-washy.

    Von Cracker said:

Of course, that’s EXACTLY what the cheap-shot innuendo liberty.com video implied about Castle 😉
