Thursday Open Thread

Filed in National by on September 16, 2010

Welcome to your Thursday open thread. It’s day 2 of the O’pocalypse and now the shock has worn off. Now we’re in the embarrassment stage. It’s nice to have Delaware in the spotlight, but not for nominating an idiot for a U.S. Senate seat.

If you have some time tonight, attend the first post-primary candidate forum.

Come Join Us For The Candidate Forum

Participants will include Candidates for:
US Senator, US Representative, Attorney General,
State Treasurer and State Auditor

Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the JCC

The program begins promptly at 7:00 p.m. (Doors open 6:30 p.m.)
Bernard & Ruth Siegel Jewish Community Center
101 Garden of Eden Road in Wilmington

Each candidate will have a 3 minute opening statement, 1 minute response to questions from the floor, and a 2 minute closing statement.

Refreshments following the program

This event sponsored by:

THIS PROGRAM IS FREE AND
OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

Apparently the place will be crawling with press. Miss Fancy-Pants-Too-Big-For-Her-Britches is scheduled to attend but may not because she hasn’t gotten the questions in advance (and she could face a hostile crowd).

Democratic county executive Chris Coons’ campaign says he will attend a candidates’ forum for Senate nominees. It was unclear if his opponent, Christine O’Donnell, will also appear at the event.

The forum is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Bernard and Ruth Siegel Jewish Community Center in Wilmington.

Coons’ campaign said in an e-mail that O’Donnell had confirmed her appearance at the forum. However, O’Donnell’s spokeswoman would not confirm that the Republican would attend.

I will try to attend. Anyone else planning on going?

    Isn’t the forum tonight?

    Your liberal media at work:

The survey showed that by 54 percent to 44 percent, most people support raising taxes on the highest earners

    But what is the headline?

AP-GfK Poll: Nearly half oppose tax hikes for rich

LOL… since I wrote this they updated the headline to:

” AP-GfK Poll: Deep divisions over tax hikes”

I guess they just couldn’t bring themselves to write:

“Most oppose tax cuts for rich”

Remember folks, it’s not tax hikes, it’s the “Obama Tax Cuts.”

I’ll pull a Christine. I’m going to confirm that I’ll attend, but who knows – maybe I will, maybe I won’t.

  4. Jason330 says:

O’donnells greatest hits from her Fox News appearances are up at dkos. I wonder if quoting her will be regarded as an attack.

i wonder which group Sister Christine will be with

“the group, being well versed in its member’s Constitutional rights,” made me LOL. Those folks are pretty picky about which rights they choose to remember.

I’ll be at the candidates forum. With bells on. It’ll be worth it just to watch Our Miss Cris’s posse try not to come in contact with their baby-boiling-and-eating hosts. 😉

Uh oh. Christine may have some FEC trouble. Via TPM

Christine O’Donnell may have broken campaign finance regulations by operating for months at a time without a treasurer, experts say.

Her campaign committee, Friends of Christine O’Donnell, has seen three treasurers quit, and went more than a year without a designated treasurer.

Campaign committees are required by law to have a designated treasurer at all times in order to collect and spend money, according to experts. But, according to records filed with the Federal Elections Commission, she’s gone through several periods with no treasurer at all, including one of more than a year.

“This is a very bad situation,” said Brett Kappel, a campaign finance lawyer with Arent Fox in Washington, D.C. “It’s illegal for a campaign committee to accept contributions or make expenditures unless there is a treasurer in office. … The O’Donnell campaign reported raising and spending well over $100,000 in the first six months of 2010 alone.”

The campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Christian Hilland, a spokesman for the FEC, said only the agency’s commissioners can decide whether a candidate broke the law. Their investigations are not public.

    I’m sure this won’t matter.

  9. HuffPo is reporting that O’Donnell raised $1M in 24 hrs, compared to Chris Coons’s $125K. We need to step it up!

Chris Coons reaches out to the dKos community

Go over and rec this if you can, but as UI recommends, make sure to donate to Chris!

EDIT: Oops! Apparently he is hanging out over there to answer questions for a little bit.

  11. I believe a certain blogger mentioned way back that he should do that.

  12. MJ says:

Just got an O’Donnell push poll. Asked me if I had voted in the primary and who I voted for. Asked that in “light of Mike Castle’s disrespectful behavior since the primary, do you regret voting for him?” Also asked if I was going to vote for O’Whackamole.

Seriously, has anyone heard from or seen our Treasurer since Tuesday?

Just wondering if anyone bothered to read Ron today:

Some 30,500 Republicans have embarrassed the dickens out of the state of Delaware by voting for a candidate who has no chance of winning the general election, is a verifiable liar and cheater with no known means of employment other than her campaign money and has nothing to claim as a campaign platform other than whatever the tea party stands for.

He goes on to insult the 30,000 people who voted for her. Classy, jackass.
