Delaware Liberal

Video From The First Candidate Forum

I’m reposting this. I originally posted this on Saturday but it seemed to get lost in the noise after the witchcraft video came out. We’re still waiting on the news stations to post the remaining video (I’d love to see Urquhart & Carney online) or at least the full audio.

Thank you to the News Journal for compiling these clips. It’s a little difficult to view them there, so I’m compiling them here for your convenience. These clips are only for the Senate candidates. I apologize, but each clip has a short commercial at the beginning.

Christine O’Donnell’s opening remarks, where she paints herself as a victim. “Limited government” and “low taxation” are founding principles, according to O’Donnell. “Common sense,” “Constitutional” and “private sector” are the buzzwords. She also proposes a temporary 2-year capital gains tax (ROFL).

Chris Coons’s opening remarks, very strong opening bio remarks. He gets some shots in at O’Donnell, Delaware’s next senator must be “prepared.”

Both candidates talk about the Middle East peace process. Christine O’Donnell read from a script that could have come straight from Bill Kristol. Coons’s answer is very strong.

Both candidates comment on the national attention to the U.S. Senate race. Here is where O’Donnell talks about getting numerous media invitations but instead chose to be here (her ego is what is going to bring her down, IMO).

Both candidates comment on health care reform. Christine O’Donnell got her biggest cheer of the night from the wingnut peanut gallery when she advocated for repeal of the health care reform law. O’Donnell says “Uncle Sam shouldn’t come between you and your doctor” yet has no problem with this when it comes to abortion.

Both candidates comment on immigration reform. Chris Coons is strong and this is perhaps O’Donnell’s nuttiest answer. She contradicts herself (she supports both “a path to citizenship” and opposes amnesty). She wants to send troops to both the northern & southern border because they are pipelines for terrorists. She says one of her clunkers “America is one of the most free places in our country.”

Both candidates answer question on national security, “what is our greatest threat?” This is where O’Donnell says her foreign policy is “we win, they lose.” She also opposes Constitutional rights for terrorists (so much for that “Constitutional conservative” label huh?) Chris Coons is especially strong in this clip.

Christine O’Donnell throwing the religious right under the bus, and lying about when she’s said crazy things:

Chris Coons on a question about raising taxes in New Castle County:

This is still not the complete debate. There was another question about foreign aid to Israel (where O’Donnell couldn’t really answer she hasn’t had time to do her laundry) and Social Security (where O’Donnell said she would be willing to raise the retirement age because Valerie Bertinelli looked hot on the cover of AARP.) The answers on abortion are also not online yet. I’ll post them when they’re available!
