Christine O’Donnell, As Described By Republicans

Filed in Delaware by on September 21, 2010

Think Progress started this list of descriptions of Christine O’Donnell by members of her own party. Let’s see if we can add to it.

Charles Krauthammer

Krauthammer calls O’Donnell supporters “disruptive and capricious.” On the September 13 edition of Special Report (retrieved from Nexis), Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer criticized endorsements of O’Donnell by Palin and Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) as “disruptive,” “capricious,” “irresponsible,” and “a big mistake.” He added, “O’Donnell is very problematic, she probably will lose.”

Karl Rove

“One thing that Christine O’Donnell is now going to have to answer in the general election that she didn’t have to answer in the primary is her own checkered background.” He later said: “I’ve met her. I’m not — I’ve got to tell you, I wasn’t, frankly, impressed as her, you know, abilities as a candidate. And again, these serious questions about how does she make her living, why did she mislead voters about her college education, how come it took her nearly two decades to pay her college bill so she could get her college degree. How does she make a living? Why did she sue a well-known and well-thought-of conservative think tank?” Rove went on to criticize “candidates who, at the end of the day, while they may be conservative in their public statements, do not evince the characteristics of rectitude and truthfulness and sincerity and character that the voters are looking for.”

GLENN BECK: “It’s creepy. … If you’re at a satanic alter, that’s a couple steps beyond witchcraft, dabbling in witchcraft. Is it just me?”

REP. MIKE PENCE (R-IN): “Certainly, she has some explaining to do about that.”

KARL ROVE: “[Delaware voters] are probably going to want to know what was that all about. … My view is she can’t simply ignore it. She’s got to deal with it and explain it and put it in its most sympathetic light and move on.”

JOE SCARBOROUGH: “You know, usually I like to say, ‘It happens,’ but this is just in a new realm. I’m a live and let live kind of guy but this is out there even for me.”

MICHAEL GERSON: “I think the reality here is that this adds to an aura of oddness.”

Let’s also not forget Delaware GOP leader Tom Ross’s description “delusional.”

According to Republicans, the following adjectives can be used to describe Christine O’Donnell:

  • problematic
  • checkered background
  • creepy
  • out there
  • odd
  • delusional
  • lacking character

    1. Anon Knows Nothing says:

The guy I want to hear from in Delaware on O’Donnell is Protack, this girl ruined his life twice. The 2006 primary was his against Ting and this year his back yard is Castle Country and the extra turnout was enough to spell 2% short, again with O’Donnell.

The rest of the party leaders if there are any will say little now, they are getting their excuses ready for the bad year the GOP will have in Delaware.

    2. Jason330 says:

I hope the “aura of oddness” keeps Castle voters at home inNovember.

    3. Anvil says:

I think that COD helped Protack in this primary. COD brought out the right-wing voters who would also pull the Protack lever. The normal NCCO GOP primary voters have rejected Protack since 1998 in his race against Valihura.

    4. Dr. Strangevote says:

Many aspects of O’Donnell’s behavior and past statements lead me to wonder if she is a sociopath. I hope Republicans realize what a mistake it is to send such a possibly pathologically dangerous person to Washington:

The hallmarks of a sociopath are—

      1. Glibness and Superficial Charm

      2. Manipulative and Conning: They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

      3. Pathological Lying: Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis.

      4. Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt: A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

      5. Shallow Emotions: When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

      6. Incapacity for Love

      7. Need for Stimulation

      8. Callousness/Lack of Empathy: Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others’ feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

      9. Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature: Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

      10. Irresponsibility/Unreliability: Not concerned about wrecking others’ lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

      11. Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle: Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

      12. Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.

      Other Related Qualities:
      – Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
      – Authoritarian
      – Paranoid
      – Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
      – Extreme narcissism and grandiose

This goes well beyond an “aura of oddness”- this is a very dangerous person.

    5. EyesofSilver says:

      My favorite description to date:

“Crazy Christine the Frigid Fundie Freak”

She is an embarrassment to me as a Delawarean and as a woman.

    6. Anvil says:

Dr. Strangevote, I forgot I was on DL and thought that you were describing Obama. My bad.

    7. Geezer says:

“Dr. Strangevote, I forgot I was on DL and thought that you were describing Obama.”

IN which case, why would you vote for her?

    8. fightingbluehen says:

My guess is, when this election is over, many supporters of O’Donnell will feel dirty. The same dirty feeling you get after a tawdry one night stand with a real minger.

    9. Anvil says:

“The same dirty feeling you get after a tawdry one night stand with a real minger.” That’s why we need to keep masturbation as a viable option. I’m a big tent Republican, although I’m not a proponent of any type of hand-outs in this situation. Save that for the log cabin bunch.

    10. Joe Cass says:

Dr.Strangevote, as a sociopath I was I could feel offended by your effort to insert her into my league. Actually, I don’t care.

    11. Anon Knows Nothing says:

The third county district is not Kent or Sussex, there is no conservative area and the people who were trying to protect Castle and Rollins were not Protack people. They came out in droves, even though protack lives off rt 82 in a nice little chateau.

I know the Libs hate the guy but take a look, got whooped badly by Lee -big deal as Lee is an embarresment now but the Ting race and this one was 1-2%. He and Copeland are all they have left for any county or statewide race.

He is living proof the Delaware GOP is a bunch of morons, they spend too much tine fighting people who might be able to win in the general election in order to save their own sense of control. Well, the clowns at the GOP politburo are goners now. Funny thing is in a funny way Protack was the guy who started this revolution and now he is sitting pretty good.

There is a move afoot to recall Michael Fleming for using $3000 to attack Protack. No matter where it goes the establishment party leaders are fools and they came up way short as anyone who was seemed to be a stand up guy will be at the top of the heap.

I still have a problem with Protack’s union beliefs and some other liberal stuff but he is looking real good.

    12. Prog-Del says:

“She’s an idiot.” Said a Rehoboth Republican and PGA member.

    13. Anvil says:

Anon Knows Nothing, which sock puppet are you? Recall Michael Fleming? Most people don’t even know that there is a NCCO GOP committee let alone care how they spend their money. Protack is like the guy who came on deck as the Titanic was going down and thought he was lucky because there were so many empty chairs to pick from. The libs love Protack. He has been Captain Chaos for the GOP since he arrived on the scene. For a better analysis of Protack, see Dr. Strangevote’s prognosis and see if it fits.

    14. Here’s an interesting description of O’Donnell, from Michelle Golberg:

“an anti-gay activist with a lesbian sister … a family-values champion who is single, childless, and sharing a house with a man.”

    15. Geezer says:

Mike Protack sitting pretty good? After losing yet another election? I told his sock puppets that Janet Kilpatrick had a good reputation with the Hockessin side of that district, but he had far more name recognition than she did. He lost anyway.

Mike Protack attacked the Delaware GOP establishment because it didn’t like him, which made them no different from 95% of the population. Then it really started to dislike him when he “anonymously” smeared everyone he could in order to make himself look better.

There is not one shred of evidence that people like Mike Protack would fare better in a general election than other REpublicans would. In fact, he’s never put that to the test by running in a district that wasn’t stacked in favor of Republicans. He could run in a general election any time he wanted to by moving to a majority-Democrat district, but he never does. He could have run in the general election on the IPoD ticket but instead left them holding a bag.

Mike Protack makes Christine O’Donnell seem realistic.

    16. Anon Knows Nothing says:

As always the Liberal fools don’t get it and never will. The Captain Chaos has been Tom Ross, rakestraw, forsten , fleming and the rest of the GOP misfits.

You libs don’t understand the the GOP does not care about winning as long as they protect their domain while it gets smaller and smaller.

The Castle Rollins push did Protack in and while you may try to deny it he is looking real good because after November 2nd the GOP will be disintegrated beyond belief. The losers who drove the party into a ditch will be inconsequential and the ones who will take over will look for someone like Protack who stood up and took the GOP slime and never backed down.

It is amazing that true sentiments of the GOp’s total ineptitude is blamed on Protack when he did not cause it, but attempted to point out how to change the GOP for the better. Talk about blue collar issues, talk about health care and not in a country club either.

As for the stupid comment by Geezer on the IPOD you seem to forget Protack bowed out to give Lee some sort of shot no matter how slim. He displayed loyalty to a party which never returns loyalty to anyone. Tom Ross said that night how Thankful he was to Protack and said he had a future in the GOP, I say it is time for Tom to man up.

Funny how the GOP denies the good bio- Marine Officer, Airline Captain, Married a long time, son is a Doctor, Boy Scout leader and both sons Eagle Scouts, school volunteer/leader. Ooops,, he isn’t a lawyer or a duPont. He lives in Chateau Country to boot.

    17. Anvil says:

For the record, I’m a member of the VRWC. Protack has gone a long way in helping to find some common ground between the right wing-nuts and the left wing-nuts. Both factions have a clear understanding of him.

    18. orestes says:

anon knows nothing should be renamed Protack knows nothing as this is who is commenting. Protack is pure slime. He blames party leadership for his repeated utter failures since 1998 and yet it is Republican voters who continually reject him. The more Protack runs the better voters get to know him and then the voters reject him. He is thoroughly unlikeable and unelectable. He is a chronic smear merchant.

Candidates can run against Republican leadership and win in primaries. (Christine O’Donnell, Glen Urquhart) Protack can’t get elected not due to the stance of Republican leadership. Protack can’t get elected because he is Mike Protack.
