More Polling Goodness: Coons 54, Evil Witch from the West 39

Filed in Delaware by on September 21, 2010

A new Fox News poll (Warning: PDF)shows Chris Coons with a HUGE 54% to 39% lead over Christine O’Donnell (Insane) among likely voters. But if the evil impure Mike Castle had won the nomination, he would be leading Coons, 48% to 33%. Thanks Teabaggers.

60% believe Christine is not qualified to be a U.S. Senator. 59% believe Coons is qualified. Of those results, 17% believe O’Donnell is qualified, but not Coons (these are the teabaggers), 11% believe both are qualified, and 47% say Coons is qualified but not O’Donnell.

Interestingly, while 26% say their vote will be used to voice support for the Tea Party, 41% say their vote will be used to voice their vehement opposition to it. Twice as many people oppose the Teabaggers as support them: 21% strongly support the Tea Party, but 40% strongly oppose it. So the Teabaggers are motivating people to vote against them. LOL. Thanks, Teabaggers.

President Obama’s approval/disapproval rating is 45% to 46%

  1. Yes, it’s almost a push poll. They ask if people want bigger government and such. O’Donnell still polls terribly. It’s interesting that 33% of Delawareans think she’s qualified, yet 39% say they’ll vote for her.

  2. Delaware Dem says:

Oh yes, it is definitely a push poll, as all Fox News polls are. The newsworthy item is that Coons has a 16 point lead in such a poll.

  3. I think the huge numbers of people voting against the tea party is a big item from this poll as well.

  4. pandora says:

    Tea Party heads are exploding.

Buckle up, everyone. My bet is this poll drives O’Donnell supporters further over the edge.

  5. anonone says:

Tea Baggers = Republicans. As Jason pointed out, they are now synonymous.

  6. I’d also have to say from this poll there are a lot more persuadables than can go to Coons. 91% of his voters say they’re sure as opposed to 85% of hers. She also has the qualified gap 33% say she’s qualified and 60% say she isn’t, that 7 point gap has to be the people who aren’t sure but may vote for her anyway. Coons has 54% support with 59% saying he’s qualified.

  7. Delaware Dem says:

Yeah, idiots like Delusional David Anderson and Foaming at the Mouth Frank Knotts cannot say this poll is biased, since it is from their beloved Fox News.

  8. Any poll that says Democrats want big government & Republicans want small government is biased.

  9. Joanne Christian says:

FWIW. How come I only read about disgruntled NCC workers, who don’t like Coons? Are there enough of them to hurt him, or are they willing to keep their boss and vote COD?

  10. Marc says:

Look, this general election will probably look like the Biden v O’donnell matchup in 2008.

It was not a tea party primary, it is a 9/12 anti-abortion primary. And it was how they attacked Castle was disgraceful. I don’t think Repubicans will stay home, I think they will come out in force to vote for Coons. She has very litte to gain from the Primary to Nov. election. Maybe some angry independents and Democrats, but I doubt it.

  11. Auntie Dem says:

If she is not lying about raising $1.8M then hold on to your seats folks. The media bomb is coming and heaven knows what lies they are going to tell about Chris. This is far from over. Chris has got a dead woman or a live male minor somewhere in his future, with a ton of advertising dollars to sell the lie.

  12. A. Price says:

and THAT is when the Baggers will go over the edge. My thinking is they will A) never see this poll and deny it exists… or B) see the poll and deny it exists anyway.
When their sweetheart gets creamed, they will not have seen it comming and will all be in shock

  13. Delbert says:

People want CHANGE this time around. If it has a heartbeat and walks on two legs most of the time, they’ll vote for it as long as it’s the new ape and not the old one. It’ll be interesting to see how O’Donnell is doing with Dem women as the election nears, and also the use of info-mercial vs. sound-bite this particular race. The budgets are huge.

  14. plslouise says:

Loved Olberman last night. Even the Wiccans blasted Christine. They claim she is a liar as they dont have altars nor would there be blood on them! So did she LIE on the Bill Maher show? Should’nt we be asking “are you now or have you ever been a witch”? Delaware will be more laughed at than the Wasilla Princess, is it time for a “dewitchification of Delaware”. “Dewitched Delaware”, this is going to be tons of fun. Like Glen Beck the recovering alcoholic, Christine could be a “recovering witcholic”!

  15. In the beginning of the primary season, I was loving Christine for her magical assistance in getting Coons his Senate seat. Now I’m loving her for giving a refined definition to the Tea Party (Dbags), that bumper sticker slogans ,faith based footwork and taking money from the gullible is their raison d’etre.
yeah I used french, we were required to take language in school. Sadly, Dbags weren’t required to GO TO school.
yeah I used caps. Thats how I shout on the interwebs.

  16. Raoul Wallenberg says:

Sorry plslouise, but those Wiccans must be wrong. They don’t know that Christine O’Donnell never, ever, tells a lie. O’Donnell knows that lying is always wrong, and never justifiable. If you can’t lie to the Nazi’s about hiding or assisting Jews during the holocaust then you surely can’t lie just to get attention on some silly TV show. To do so would make you.. a total fraud and hypocrite.

Ps- I am waiting for some Paul Stanley look-alike from Moorestown NJ to emerge claiming to be her old high school boyfriend.

  17. O’Donnell has a problem, though. To win, she needs to convince all the undecideds plus flip the Coons voters. This looks to be a difficult task with her 33% qualified/60% unqualified/7% undecided number. She’ll have to use that money to convince people she’s qualified. Coons will just have to not mess up.

  18. I agree with Auntie Dem that O’Donnell’s option right now is to go negative. We’ll have to see how much that works since her complaints before were that Castle went negative despite the fact that she went first. I assume she’ll start playing the “poor me” card again but I don’t think it will work with anyone except the teabaggers.

  19. pandora says:

This poll has every Castle supporter ready to yell I told you so! at every tea partier. And so they should.

  20. Another Mike says:

Haven’t heard that COD has said yes to Bill Maher yet for this Friday, so I’m anxiously awaiting the next body.

And I don’t care what the polls say, Coons needs to stay sharp. No need to risk anything. O’Donnell has provided more than enough material for his campaign.

  21. anon says:

Coons will just have to not mess up.

    That’s what Castle said.

  22. Jason330 says:

Ui, coons has to do more than not mess up. I’m working on a post about the GOP’s line of attack and it seems clear to me that t is going to make the term “scorched Earth” seem quaint and gentile by comparison.

  23. anon says:

I hope Coons has mastered the art of humorous deflection and turning the attack back on the opponent. Grim recitations of fact, however relevant and accurate, are an ineffective antidote against that kind of GOP poison.

Christine has zero sense of humor about herself, but she will come armed with “jokes” that she will repeat incessantly.

  24. Marc says:

They keep showing the GOP picnic at Wilson’s on the news. Where chrissy is shaking hands. If you look in the background, most of the people at the picnic were looking at her in disgust.

At the Tea bagger event at the Legion the other week she had very weak turnout.

So I don’t see her campaigning in Delaware much. She didn’t before the Primary. It was mostly her counting on the idiot radio station pushing her and the national appearences.

I actually wonder how much of that money she will actually spend on real campaigning and how much she will just keep in the bank for her next failed venture.

Oh and btw. If she runs again, I will run against her in the Primary. I am a disabled vet republican, I can easily get the Vets on board with me and split the vote and be the spoiler for her.

  25. Joe Cass says:

You go, Marc. I’m happy to look at a platform not an ideology. BTW, what can you say about the care that is offered in Elsmere. I’ve heard some disconcerting things from Korean war marine vets and a few Navy vets concerning the VH. Can you add anything or do you have a blog?

  26. Marc says:

I am actually going to get very involved in the VA issues next year when I am doing better.

There is no easy yes or no answer with the VA. The VA is a maze and each era and each classification of veterans have their own issues.

People who are not veterans or do not deal with the VA really don’t understand it. That is the problem.

Is Elsmere a good hospital, overall yes, for me it is. But it is not a trauma center, and has very limited services. But I am a 100% disabled with the VA so I get easier access to care than someone who is retired and has Medicare and is simply using the VA to get medications cheap.

My goal is going to be education civilians so they actually know how they can push congress.

  27. Joe Cass says:

Thanks for the response, Marc. And you are correct about we non-vets not having full comprehension. I do fully understand that servicemen and women need to be at the top of priorities everywhere. From my point of view, honor must be repaid in kind. Thanks for your service.

  28. Anon Knows Nothing says:

O’Donnell has hijacked the Tea party movement. She did nothing when we started the event in Delaware 2 years ago, not a thing.

It is sad but the Tea Party needs to wake up and see she is railroading a good cause.

She was a tool to get rid of Castle and that is it.

  29. Aoine says:

I was gonna be a witch for Halloween – but now I’m going as christine O’Donnell – Im in Sussx so I should get LOTS of treats

    same difference

and bring a choking chicken with me……

  30. Marc says:

thanks Joe. And it is not just non-vets. A large portion of vets don’t deal with it nor do they understand. Most of the veterans organizations don’t really represent all veterans, and actually usually just their majority of members. Which are older veterans have one specific issue.

That veterans home delaware built is an insult to Veterans. They charge $210 per day, and the VA only picks up around 80 per day. How is that a veterans home???

  31. Joe Cass says:

Well, Marc, not to point too fine a point on it, my union hall had no contractors on that project. Our membership consists of quite a few veterans from WWII onward as well as active members. In the past 15 years mismanagement and abuses have come to light over Veteran Affairs, and thats not even mentioning the underfunding. Thank you putting a fire under my ass do do more by mass emailing Congress and my state legislators. The government may have failed you but, as Christine says, we the people have not. The best mover I think you may have is Jim Webb. The absolute Fing worst was Murtha, glad for his service in uniform but his service in D.C. was as corrupt as the day is long. Your battle should have ended long ago, in an ideal world. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go climb a roof for a guy like you, he made the sacrifice for guys like me.

  32. liberalgeek says:

Well said, Joe. Thank you for your service Marc.

  33. Marc says:

    Joe.
Keep this in mind. It is not just the VA. I rely on alot of state level programs. Yeah that pesky big government stuff.
But that is why Democrats have helped veterans more than Republicans. People don’t realize that, and I wish they did. Castle knew the issues with all Veterans, that is why he is really a loss to Delaware veterans.
But Coons is a good guy and I have talked to his people.

  34. A. Price says:

    Marc,
sadly people dont care about what parties have DONE, jsut what they say on Fox. Republicans say “we are the party of national defense”
and they prove it by being really good at SENDING good people like yourself into battle, then when you return, they call spending meant to take care of you “waste” and “pork”.
They are a disgusting bunch of liars and pigs.

  35. Marc says:

I am not a combat vet. I was a partrooper who served on hazardous duty. And I sustained a severe injury on a parachute jump..

  36. Marc says:

Oh and good point. People think National Defense = Veterans. It is not. Veterans do not benefit from Defense spending. I actually pointed this out to the 9/12 morons and they were vile. morons

  37. cobbler says:

Remember Joe Biden always saying, “Republicans always come home Election Day.” Let’s not count our chickens until I hatch; Republicans need this seat, help is coming from DC as we speak as well is money.

  38. cobbler says:

Remember Joe Biden always saying, “Republicans always come home Election Day.” Let’s not count our chickens until they hatch; Republicans need this seat, help is coming from DC as we speak as is $$$$. Prepare for the crap to hit the fan from the GOP. Remember the new Supreme Court ruling allows tons of money to be spent without naming the donors to smear candidates. Look for Republican money to come to DE big time.

  39. JG says:

While I agree we shouldn’t count our chickens just yet, I think people are beginning to see just how wacky and unqualified she really is. Its really hard to deny.

  40. Bob says:

the fact that a person like Christine got such a high percentage is scary to me. Is someone putting something in DE’s water to make so many people crazy?

  41. I agree overconfidence and not taking Christine and her newfound millions seriously are things Democrats need to avoid. However, O’Donnell’s chances against Coons are way more difficult than against Castle. What little polling there was for the primary consistently showed Castle around 44-45%, which is pretty much the number he ended up with.

  42. Marc says:

I was talking to the Coons campaign just before and right after the Primary. They are taking it serisouly.

I think running the attack ad, the same basic ad Castle ran is a mistake. But it has to be tough fighting an invisible canidate.
