Welcome to your Thursday open thread. I guess our summer drought is over – rain, rain, rain! I’ll have to start mowing the lawn again.
GOP candidate for California Meg Whitman has a nanny problem. She employed an undocumented woman for 9 years as a nanny.
A former housekeeper for Meg Whitman, the Republican candidate for governor of California, alleged in a press conference with a high-profile lawyer that she was subject to financial and emotional abuse for the nine years she was employed.
Both sides agree that Whitman fired her housekeeper last June because she was an illegal immigrant, just a few months after Whitman’s campaign for governor got underway.
…
The housekeeper said in a press conference Wednesday that she explained the situation to Whitman because she wanted to become a legal U.S. resident.
“We have no jobs, no food, no place to live, and for that reason we made a decision to come here,” the housekeeper said she told Whitman. “I told her that I don’t have papers to work here, and we need her help.”
The California governor’s race has been pretty close and Whitman has held a small lead all summer. She still has a fortune she can drop on the race (she’s spent $120M already) but this can’t help her chances.
We’ve talked about New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino before. He’s sent disgusting emails to a list of government officials and proposed that welfare recipients be put in prison to learn hygiene. The latest nastiness is that Paladino is accusing Andrew Cuomo, despite the fact that Paladino has a 10-year-old daughter by a woman who is not his wife.
Politico reports that Paladino, who has a 10-year-old daughter with a woman who is not his wife, said yesterday: “My daughter is off limits.”
He added that she’s “an innocent” and the affair is definitely over: “That was ten years ago. What do you think this is, Peyton Place on television? For Christ sake!”
But that didn’t stop him from making out Cuomo’s personal life to be, well, “Peyton Place on television.”
“Has anybody asked Andrew Cuomo about his paramours?” Paladino asked, adding: “When he was married. Or asked him why his wife left him or threw him out of the house? Has anybody ever done that?”
Paladino is an ass, in case that wasn’t obvious before.
