Rasmussen Has Coons Up By 11%
Rasmussen has released a new Delaware poll showing Coons up by 11%, 51% to 40%. Before you start hyperventilating, this is actually an improvement in Coons numbers from the last Rasmussen poll. I think this is saying that there has not been much change in the numbers since the debate, but O’Donnell’s people are already spinning this as a “momentum” story.
Democrat Chris Coons holds an 11-point lead over Republican Christine O’Donnell in Delaware’s U.S. Senate race following the candidates’ debate Wednesday night.
The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Delaware shows Coons earning 51% of the vote, while O’Donnell draws 40% support. Five percent (5%) prefer some other candidate in the race, and four percent (4%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)
The contest remains Solid Democrat in the Rasmussen Reports Election 2010 Senate Balance of Power rankings.
Coons posted a similar 49% to 40% lead three weeks ago when Congressman Mike Castle whom O’Donnell defeated in the state GOP Primary was still pondering a write-in candidacy. Five percent (5%) supported Castle at that time. Castle has since announced that he will not run but has not endorsed O’Donnell, a conservative activist who remains a long-shot candidate in the traditionally moderate state.
O’Donnell looks to be stuck at around the 40% mark. We’ll have to wait to see another poll to see if Coons’s lead is really shrinking.

I find it very odd that the POTUS, along with VP Biden, are in Delaware this afternoon stumping for Chris Coons. Coons holds a 11 point to 20 point lead, depending on which poll one reads.
Why isn’t Obama in Wisconsin, helping Feingold, or in any of the other states where the races are neck-and-neck? It just seems very odd to waste this political capital on a race in DE where registered dems outnumber registered reps nearly 2.5 to 1.
Is Obama a liability in some of these ‘purple’ or ‘red’ states? I guess Obama and the DSCC doesn’t want to relive another Martha Coakley moment.
Here’s the UD survey on the debate.
56% thought Coons won the debate, 29% thought O’Donnell won. That means at least 25% who support O’Donnell thought she lost the debate. Broken down by demographic groups, only Republicans thought that O’Donnell won the debate. Only 2% switched after the debate. Undecideds split about 50/50 after the debate.
So anyone who sees the poll and thinks O’Donnell changed anything is wrong.
I think Obama/Biden want to make O’Donnell the face of the Republican party.
The “big momentum shift” will be a complete fiction. A wholly unsubstantiated fantasy concocted by Fox News, but WDEL and the NJ will report it nevertheless.
I saw the presidential motorcade on the road today !!!! just sayin.
I agree that for Obama to be in a state where the D candidate has a double digit lead shows you how much most D’s don’t want him anywhere near their state and/or how toxic Obama has become in so many parts of the country. In Delaware, though, in a closed setting (remember, he filled Rodney Square less than 2 years ago), the president comes to support a candidate. How the mighty have fallen.
I shook Obama’s hand at the Grand today. It was Grand.
Most impressive move of the day for me? I think that it was Obama who, from the stage, said hi to Matt Denn’s son Zach, by name.
Funny how Publius ignores the huge rallies Obama had in Wisconsin and Pennsylvania because it doesn’t fit his narrative.
All of the women who post and comment on this site are WHORES!!!
WHORES! WHORES! WHORES!
Political whores that is. So it’s ok that I said that.
By the way UI, I was at the rally in Germantown. Nothing huge about it.
The way COD was spinning it on Curly’s show this afternoon (with a lot of prodding and leading by the fat man) was that she has knocked off 6 percentage points from previous polls and can win this just like she did the primary. “We weren’t actually leading in the polls until the weekend before the primary,” said Witchiepooh.
Too bad they weren’t comparing this with the previous Rasmussen poll. They are both tools.
The fictional “big momentum shift” has been part of the plan from day one. She screwed up and didn’t really land any punches in the debate, but the mill stones grind on.
What’s interesting in the UD poll is that only 12 people changed their candidate support. If I read the data correctly, Coons would still have about a 15%-16% lead in that poll.
O’Donnell is a fake and a pretender, someone who is grabbing Tea Party money for her own campaign which is a farce. If smarter Tea Party people gave Urquhart one fourth of the O Donnell money he could win.
O’ Donnell could have $100 million and she will not win. When over 50% think you are unqualified for the Senate you are doomed.
Yes the Delaware GOP leaders are screwed up but again conservatives are dumber. She is a drag on the ticket plain and simple.
are there any smart Tea Party folks???
ain’t seen one yet
Nothing huge about it.
Just like an archive of scrug’s witty comments
Yes, MJ you read it right – only 2% of the sample, or 12 people flipped because of the debate.
As far as the spread goes – this was the UD poll which had Coons up by 21%, by the math here, Coons would still be up 21%
“are there any smart Tea Party folks???”
You mean “smart” like Jason’s pet?

“… I couldn’t resist. I worked my way into the cluster of tea-baggers and started going:”Hey,JERKHART” ! real loud. You could see him flinch whenever I yelled…”
“… I took off the PHILLIES cap I was wearing and showed it to the cameras and in all innocence exclaimed,” I’m no GOON.I’m with the PHILLIES man, and all PHILLIES fans hate you”.”…Ah, it reminds me of PSY/OPS”
“…Oh, and Jason, I also called him a NAZI, very LOUDLY and MULTIPLY times. It was only when I laid an F-bomb on one of his supporters that the WPD said ,”No profanity, please”.

This is totally unfair. I have no pet.
You can adopt A1. He’s had his shots and has been neutered.
I heard he bites.
I heard he has rabies.

Oh, and Miscreant, you LEFT OUT the part where JERKHART called me an UNION GOON.
I wore nothing to identify myself as anything but an ordinary working stiff.
Jeans, red sport shirt, dark green jacket, athletic shoes and Phillies cap.
Sit!

Bus trip? I get enough entertainment, snark, bullshit and politics at Delaware Liberal.
